A Credentialing Specialist for travel nurses plays a crucial role in ensuring that nurses meet all necessary licensing, certification, and compliance requirements before starting their assignments. Their responsibilities typically include:

• Assists Travelers with Joint Commissions and Hospital Specific Requirements to be compliant for contract
• Ensure consistent documentation and complete verification of traveler’s credentials including state licenses, education, pre-employment requirements and certifications prior to start date of assignment with facility.
• Communicate via direct telephone call, email and text with traveler’s to ensure all required documentations are received on or before due date
• Act as the point of contact for credential files of all caregivers/travelers
• Must be very detail oriented and be able to meet demanding deadlines.
• Schedules Drug Screens and runs Background Checks.
• Can assist with locating and scheduling additional testing needed such as; Titers, Immunizations, TDAP, PPDs, etc locally to the traveler.
• Assists Travelers in locating certifications and certifications renewals as needed
• Continues to follow up with Traveler while on contract for upcoming expiring documents and certifications.
• The Credentialing Specialist normally contacts the Traveler within 24 to 48 hours depending on the contract start date, after acceptance of the contract by the Traveler.
