I have over 3 decades of very diverse design experience in both commerical and residential. My love for design is exellerated when my clients are happy. I design for the client and my job is to listen to them and give them what they want but better than they ever thought they would have. My attention to detail and ability to listen to the client has created very happy clients and that means the world to me. I embrace the collaboration between designer, client, artisans to create spaces that inspire. I have top notch attention to detail and problem solving abilities with a resourceful mindset and thorough approach.
I am Director Interior Design department for a high end design build custom home builder. I am responsible for the interiors of currently $40 million dollars worth of work which includes all interior design products, plumbing, appliances lighting etc. I am also responsible for all cabinet designs and approving all cabinet shop drawings. I am also involved in the entire design of the home with the architectural design team. We work as a team and I am involved from start to finish on the designs. I specify all products, while staying in a budget, input the information in to a software called buildertrend and manage the products until installation. I redline drawings with all cabinet designs, tile patterns and anything else going into the home for the design team to input into the drawings. I have two interior design employees that I delegate and mentor throughout all projects. I perform all jobsite walks to help the project come to full fruition.
I always had a goal straight out of college to one day have my own firm and I gave myself a 10 year window to do that and when that 10 years came, I started my own firm in 2000 with one client that decided they wanted to leave the firm I was with and follow me. I never really looked back. I had accrued my own clientele as well as contracted with many small architectural firms here in Austin and San Antonio that did not have interior designers in house. I also did tenant finish-out designing for local commercial brokers in many of Austins commercial buildings while doing a ton of, healthcare, institutional and corporate work. I also did high end residential typically for the CEOs of the companies I was working with commercially. I enjoyed the diversity of doing all kinds of designs
I started out with O Connell Robertson as a contract Interior designer hired specifically for a new evidence based design elementary school in Jarrell TX they were designing. My job was to do the research needed through psychological evidence to create this elementary school where the colors and patterns throughout the school promoted certain results depending on what that class was. Certain colors either created a calmness or creativity or even an appetite in the lunchroom for vegetables, this was all based on colors and where they were placed. After some time O Connell Robertson offered me a full time job as Director of Interiors to grow their interiors department and help bring it up to current design expectations for the industry. I also designed the Women's Center in Killeen Texas and designed the new TB hospital in San Antonio along with many other institutional and healthcare projects. I worked for O Connell until my son started kindergarten then I needed to be back in the Bee Cave area where we lived so he could start school. I then decided to resume my personal business again.
Worked with Six River when they were only a company of 4. I did interior design for all their commerical clients at that time.
I wanted to move to Austin from San Antonio to be part of the cycling community but wanted to work for one of the top firms in Austin. I applied to the top 4 and after getting offers from all of them settled at Page Southerland Page. I was hired to specifically design the Choctaw Nation Family Hospital in Oklahoma and worked along with a wonderful older architect that allowed me to get as involved in the architecture as I wanted. This was unheard of at the time for PSP interior designers. I did all the research necessary on the Choctaw Nation and designed the hospital around their tribal colors, creeds and passions. I had the pleasure of presenting my designs to the Chief of the Choctaw Nation and enjoy watching their eyes light up when they saw the amount of research that went in to their designs to make this facility all about their people. I also got to work on great institutional projects under some great principals that are no longer there. It was a great company to spread my wings in Austin on.
I had the pleasure of working with some famous architects at this wonderfully historical firm. This is the oldest architectural firm in Texas. I applied here after moving to San Antonio from Houston and wanted to be on the preservation team which at that time was preserving the Alamo but this was. very hard team to be allowed into so I never got the chance to work on their many preservation projects but, I was part of a design team that designed all types of great commerical spaces as well as large ranch homes in Central Texas and the home for the Pace Picante family. I am very proud to have worked with this firm. I was very sad to leave the firm but wanted to be in Austin.
I moved to the Cayman Islands to be a part of the huge amount of development that was happening on the island at that time. I went through a divorce in Houston and needed a change and moved down to work for an interior design firm. I designed corporate spaces as well as high end homes and condos for residents and people that owned property on the island. I learned a whole new respect for having patience with relying on shipping containers from the states to bring everything you need and the island time labor force mentality, you were not in control of anything. It was a great experience but not one that anyone can do for a long period of time.
This was my first commerical interiors job with a small firm in Houston. I designed corporate, institutional and healthcare interiors. This was a great first step
