Formed a joint venture with aggressive private company in the south Texas Lobo project and Barnett shale project which was sold in ’08 to CHK. Joint venture in new Edwards/Eagle Ford play in Bee County with one of the first movers in Eagle Ford. Managed acquisition of approximately 15,000 acres in the highly competitive east Texas Haynesville play. Acquired 10,000 acres in Karnes and Zavala Counties of Eagle Ford play.

  • Played a lead role in transforming Houston Exploration from a reactive offshore exploration company to a proactive exploration and acquisition company via established relationships in the Gulf of Mexico and south Texas areas. Led an acquisition team that closed at least one significant acquisition each year including several fields from Conoco in south Texas, Burlington in south Texas, Orca GOM and Transworld GOM. Another key acquisition which enabled Houston Exploration to unlock its stock price potential was the acquisition of Keyspan’s stock (parent company). Increased the number of wells drilled per year from less than 50 in 2000 to over 150 in 2004 while increasing production 150% and doubling reserves.

As manager of land and business development reported directly to Joe Foster and played a key role in its first acquisition at EI 172 in ’90, first discovery via farmin at SS 157 in ’91, acquisition of EI 181/182 in ’92, initial public offering in ’93, acquisition of EI 251/262 in ’94, farmin of ST 148 in ’95, WD 152 in ’96, acquisition of EC 286 in ’97, first onshore discovery at Broussard field in ’98, first international venture with acquisition of two fields in Australia in ’99, initial venture into south Texas with $139mm acquisition in ’00 and its largest acquisition ever-Lariat in the Anadarko Basin of Oklahoma in ’01 which put Newfield in the Woodford Shale play.

  • Responsible for all phases of land and regulatory work for offshore effort. Led Apache’s first operated joint venture into the GOM with the negotiation of an exploration agreement with King Ranch Oil and Gas. Through JV with King Ranch, Apache participated in its first lease sale in the GOM and drilled its first well in GOM (now Apache owns more offshore leases than any other company in GOM). Joint venture was extremely successful and several of the discoveries are still producing including Gal 343 and Mat 650. Worked closely with geologist, reservoir engineer and exploration manager (basically a 4 man team) during tenure at Apache to become one of the premier explorers/developers in western GOM.

  • Participated in Phillips’ well regarded landman training program which consisted of significant training in all phases of land work including division order, lease record, regulatory and scouting. Upon completion of training program worked as landman in the gulf coast and west Texas divisions of Phillips.
