Position Summary:
As a Special Education English Co-Teacher, I collaborate with general education teachers to support students with special needs in an inclusive English classroom setting. My role involves designing and delivering differentiated instruction, modifying curriculum, and implementing Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) to ensure that students with disabilities receive equitable access to education. I provide direct instruction, collaborate with stakeholders, and conduct ongoing assessments to meet the diverse learning needs of my students.
Responsibilities
Instructional Support
- I work closely with the general education English teacher to plan, deliver, and assess lessons that align with curriculum standards.
- I create and deliver differentiated instruction and scaffolding strategies tailored to meet the needs of students with Specific Learning Disabilities (SLD), Other Health Impairments (OHI), and other exceptionalities.
- I ensure that lessons and classroom activities align with each student’s IEP goals and accommodations.
- I focus on helping students develop their reading comprehension, writing skills, grammar, and vocabulary in alignment with grade-level standards.
Student Support
- I provide small group or one-on-one instruction to students who need additional support in English Language Arts (ELA).
- I use positive behavior management strategies to support students who may face Emotional and Behavioral Disorders (EBD) or other challenges.
- I incorporate assistive technology, such as text-to-speech and speech-to-text tools, to support students in accessing the curriculum.
Collaboration and Communication
- I collaborate with general education teachers, paraprofessionals, and specialists like speech therapists or occupational therapists to develop comprehensive plans that support students' needs.
- I maintain regular communication with parents/guardians to keep them informed about their child’s progress and provide strategies for supporting learning at home.
- I participate in professional development opportunities to stay informed about best practices in special education and co-teaching model
Assessment and Data**
