At RK Construction some of my more routine responsibilities are as follows.
Prepare a waking surface by welding deck pans to angle iron for the crew to use during bridge construction.
During slip repairs, I weld whalers to I-Beam piles to hold the I-beams in line and hold the lagging in place.
When not welding I also help with all other phases of bridge construction including, Concrete pouring and finishing, Carpentry forming, Tie steel rebar, use oxy/aceteylne torches to cut up old bridge material, reinforcement cables, and during the process of new bridge construction.
I operate Skid steers, Compactor vibrating roller, Excavators, Dump trucks, Jack Hammers, Air rotary drill, walk behind road saws, demolition saws and any other required power hand tooling during construction.
I grew up on our family farm in the hills of West Virginia. Our farm is a beef cattle operation consisting of approximately 75 head of cows and 4 breeding bulls. Along with our personal herd we also contract feed an additional 150 head of feeder cattle. Our farm is primarily self sufficient providing pasture for summer graving and enough hay ground to supply hay for the winter feeding months.
As a laborer starting on the farm, I was responsible for the following but not limited to, weed-eating, lawn mowing, fence repairs, brush cutting and spraying, putting up square bale hay, cattle veterinary duties and general farm work. As I grew older more of the farm managing responsibilities were delegated to me, from there I started making more of the daily decisions on how the farm was operated. Currently, I now make most all decisions on how the farm operates and maintain a constant work flow to be sure the most priority work is completed in a timely manner.
