"I don't know any simpler formula for peace, for relief from stress and anxiety, than to do the next thing." This is a quote by Elisabeth Elliot, and her reminder, to do the next thing, as it applies to most of life's circumstances. This includes the care I have given to those in their final days, "the next thing", can be a word of compassion, a touch, a listening ear, and simply being present. My favorite verse that is valued in my personal life and I believe it applies to hospice care , Jude 22, "And some having compassion making a difference." It is my desire to continue working with those who need a companion on their journey.
My experience as a volunteer for hospice preceded my role as a Volunteer Coordinator. I recognized as a volunteer, time spent with a patient during end-of-life care is a privilege that leaves a lasting impression on the volunteer. The experience in the field , serving as a liaison between the patient, family, and hospice staff, created lasting memories that added to both the patient and my own life.
Through my own journey and experience with loss and grief, I understand the commitment to be a dedicated professional who is passionate about end-of-life philosophy. My background includes building volunteer programs by recruiting, training and educating volunteers who provide support, respite care, and bereavement services to terminally ill patients and their families.
Provided academic guidance and support to 5-10 students per semester, adapted to individual learning styles, personalized study plans, and built student confidence through relationships.
