Study Abroad, Thailand.   Completed a two-week immersive program focused on veterinary medicine, animal welfare, and conservation in Thailand. First week spent at an elephant sanctuary, learning about elephant medicine and conservation, including anatomy, physiology, diet, nutrition, welfare, enrichment, cultural perceptions, and the drivers of successful conservation projects in developing countries. Participated in hands-on animal care, enrichment, and behavioral observation of elephants, gaining practical experience with endangered species.  Second week dedicated to a companion animal shelter and clinic, learning shelter medicine and its ethical impacts in a cross-cultural context. Developed practical skills in animal handling and restraint, disease identification, diagnosis and treatment, sterilization surgeries, suture techniques, blood draws, venipuncture, blood smears, microscope use, fecal exams, and necropsies., Gained insight into the importance of culture in animal management and the role of community engagement in conservation. Enhanced cross-cultural communication and adaptability through engagement with Thai language, food, and local customs.
