Summary

I am a 30 year Montessorian. I started working in Montessori as an assistant while attending college. After graduating college, I decided my true passion was working with children and helping to develop the whole child. I have enjoyed teaching and working in Montessori classrooms for the last 30 years. I started my career helping to open Issaquah Montessori. I spent over a decade in Issaquah, learning and growing in my skills as a teacher. I have been at Monroe Montessori School since 2004. I have a son who attended MMS through 5th grade, so I was able to experience Montessori as both a parent and an educator. Five years ago, I came on board as a mentor and supervisor of the Preschool/Kindergarten program. It is here that I found another passion. Helping to guide and mentor new teachers and establishing the prepared environment in all of our classrooms. I guide teachers in classroom management skills, creating an environment for children that is prepared and engaging, behavior management techniques, assessments and parent/teacher communication. I also took on the role in the summers as office administrator, doing tours, holding department meetings, and helping create curriculum. I have had the privilege of guiding many Montessori interns, both through MEIPN and other teaching platforms. I am passionate about creating an environment rich with curriculum that inspires children to ask questions and develop a love of learning. I also have a daughter with special needs on the autism spectrum and a brother who is bipolar and has oppositional defiance disorder. Therefore, another passion of mine is inclusiveness in the classroom. How do we keep children with behavior and learning challenges in the mainstream classroom? Many of my continuing education classes have focused on helping children learn skills that will help them be successful in a classroom of learners. Also, how to empower teachers with skills to help children with learning or behavior challenges. On a personal level, my family owns two cherry orchards in Wenatchee. During my off time, I enjoy helping in the orchard. I also enjoy bringing nutrition, farming and farm to table cooking into the classroom. What is it that I love most about Montessori? Helping the child become an independent, engaged learner. Helping the child discover their unique interests and talents and developing that through music, art, culture, language and curriculum. Following the child in how they learn best, and helping them reach their own greatness.
