Postpartum Nurse Responsibilities:

• Administer pain management interventions and monitor postpartum recovery, including vaginal/cesarean healing and complications (e.g., infection, bleeding).
• Assist and educate new mothers on breastfeeding techniques, ensuring proper latch, and offering emotional support.
• Conduct routine newborn assessments, including vital signs, physical exams, and monitoring for complications (e.g., jaundice, abnormal reflexes).
• Provide care for circumcised infants and monitor healing progress.
• Teach parents essential newborn care, including diapering, swaddling, bathing, and safe sleep practices.
• Offer emotional support to families, addressing concerns and promoting parent-infant bonding.
• Prepare mothers and infants for discharge by reviewing care instructions, providing resources, and scheduling follow-up appointments.

Transitional Care Nursery Nurse Responsibilities:

• Monitor and assess the condition of higher-care level infants, identifying and responding to changes in their health status.
• Assess oxygen needs and administer oxygen therapy as required, ensuring proper respiratory support.
• Conduct room air trials to evaluate infants' ability to maintain adequate oxygen levels without supplemental oxygen.
• Perform car seat trials to ensure infants can safely travel home with appropriate oxygen levels.
• Insert peripheral IVs for blood draws and infusion therapy, ensuring proper technique and minimal discomfort for infants.

• Assessed and recorded maternal blood pressure, pulse, temperature, and oxygen saturation; reported abnormal values to nursing staff promptly.
• Inserted and maintained IVs and Foley catheters as ordered, ensuring proper function and infection control.
• Provided warmed human donor milk in age-appropriate amounts to families, adhering to safety and storage guidelines.
• Supported nursing staff during neonatal circumcisions, ensuring sterile techniques and patient safety.
• Assisted with patient care tasks, maintained cleanliness and organization of the unit, and restocked supplies as needed.

• Collaborated with RNs to prioritize and deliver high-quality care to several patients in triage.
• Monitored, documented, and communicated patient conditions to nursing staff.
• Demonstrated skills in placing intravenous lines, urinary catheters, and collecting labs.
• Assisted MDs during vaginal deliveries and meticulously tidied up both the patient and their environment post-delivery.
