Mechanical Maintenance

  • The mechanical maintenance department is responsible for safely conducting all manner of maintenance activities within the power station. This equipment includes but is not limited to conveyor systems, bearing replacements, alignments, couplings, pump rebuilds, lube oil systems, gearbox overhauls, HPDE pipe fabrication, pulverizers, pug mills, high and low pressure valves, torquing with Hytorc and manual torque wrenches, spiral wound gaskets, threading pipe, oil seals, air heater repairs, burner replacements and repairs, structural welding, operation of some machine shop equipment, fork truck operation, man lifts, scaffolding, rigging and lifting, over-head hoists, crusher rebuilds, etc.
  • Mechanics are also greatly Responsible for their own safety. As well as following procedures set forth by the company. These can include but aren't limited to open hole permits, hot work permits, confined spaces, clearance Control program, air monitoring, rescue plans, respirators, fall protection, electrical safety, tagging procedures, human performance tools, etc.
  • Identified and corrected root causes of mechanical failures.
  • Conducted comprehensive monthly inspections on critical power station equipment.
  • Ensured accurate record-keeping of materials and parts used in each maintenance activity.
  • Organized pre-job safety briefs, critical controls checklists, and job procedures.
  • Detailed work performed and parts/materials used upon job completion.
  • Ensured adherence to environmental regulations and company procedures.
  • Conveyed any arising environmental issues to the appropriate station staff.

Yard Operator

  • The power station yard operator is responsible for receiving coal from the coal mine. Managing the 800,000 ton stockpile with heavy equipment. Then ensuring that coal reaches the silos in an acceptable state to be used as fuel in the boilers.
  • Yard operators work on a rotating schedule between three shifts and various jobs or duties assigned each day.
  • Heavy equipment operated at this position includes 854k wheel dozers, D10 dozer, D7 dozer, skid steer, fork truck, dump truck, long reach excavator, back hoe, and extended boom.
  • Control room duty is where the operator is in control of all the coal handling stationary equipment via analog control panel. This panel controls the flow of coal from the coal mine, across several miles of belt, the crusher house, coal pile stack-out, reclaim tunnels, and the power plant. The operator has to be fully alert during this duty to ensure coal is going to the correct places at the correct flow rate to avoid double feeding, spills, and overfilling. The operator is also responsible for making clearances, tagging, confined space entry logs, as well as coordinating efforts between coal yard operations and maintenance operations.
  • The equipment watch responsibility was to monitor equipment as it's running to catch any defects before they worsen and cause down time. Some of the equipment includes conveyors, crushers, gates, valves, plant heating, plow feeders, bearings, and lube oil pumps, sample systems. As well as writing maintenance notifications on any equipment requiring attention. The operator in this position is also responsible for taking hourly samples of coal to be sent out for BTU testing.
