  • Interpreting naval architecture and design drawings, including structural, arrangement, section drawings, and elevation drawings, i.e., knowing what components get insulated, high-temperature materials, cold/anti-sweat rubber materials, etc. And a great understanding of the locations of components and spaces via drawings in the back of TGI's and TWD's. Verifying gas-free tickets prior to entering any confined spaces and poorly ventilated enclosed spaces.
  • Great at working with teams to understand the objectives of the mission and goals in our day-to-day tasks through morning meetings and task work documents, TWDs, and TGIs. Also great at adjusting to independent tasking through AWRs for those in-the-moment jobs that pop up to help support our other trades in the shipyard.
  • High level of competency in the use of pneumatic and power tools. IE: Working with bandsaws, table saws, cutting tables, "sew shop," dust collector machines, etc. High level of competency in the use of hand tools, cutting knives of all types, saws, hammers, crowbars, etc.
  • Using required safety PPE, "personal protection equipment," with tooling, i.e., ear plugs, double hearing protection, safety glasses, non-slip gloves, cut-resistant gloves, hard hats, steel-toe boots, knee pads, etc.
    Proper signing posted in areas of work for loud noises, deck plates removed, toxic metals, and checklists reviewed and signed off by Code 106. Work with other shops and codes for proper ventilation and filtration of toxic fumes discharged from glues and adhesives that our trade works with. Proper disposal of the different types of hazardous chemicals, materials, and signing/labeling for the shipyard's waste stream system.
  • Qualifications in: full, half, air-fed, ultra-view respirators. Air-purifying and supplied-air systems respirators.
    Gas-free awareness, full asbestos worker with and without glove bags, "full containment building," fiberglass/vitreous fibers hazardous materials, understanding the PS Clean Air Act EPA, when working with hazardous materials, and environmental safety awareness, etc.
  • Lastly, not afraid of heights, knows how to don and use fall protection gear issued by the shipyard toolroom. There are many more qualifications that I was not able to list here that I can provide through my ATMs.

  • Daily functions include setting up and tearing down scaffolding, worksite tools, equipment, and all materials.
  • Drilling rebar holes for CMU walls.
  • Making sure the job site is clean and hazard-free.

  • Building structures with stone, concrete, and tile, as well as cutting, polishing, and building the structure.

  • Utilizing various power tools, such as a 50 lb. Jack hammers, Hilti and Bosch chipping guns, Sawzalls, power saws, air guns, drills, etc.
  • Help in loading and unloading trucks, and transport all trash to the dumpster.
  • Stripped-out fittings, removed doors and windows, and dismantled roof structures using a sledgehammer.
  • Follow strict OSHA guidelines (health and safety) at all times; I have trained in the safe removal of hazardous materials, such as asbestos and other toxic chemicals.
  • Assure the safety of the surrounding area before demolishing the section of the building.
