Undergraduate Research Student
Stevens Institute of Technology, LMSI
Hoboken, NJ
06.2024 - 08.2024
Worked independently on the research of self-defensive materials designed for medical implants to fight bacterial infections before they begin.
Conducted experiments focused on the use of carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC) in hydrogels to house the antimicrobial colistin.
Created new methods and protocols to increase productivity of the experiments using the current synthetization formula.
Researched alternative methods to synthesize the hydrogel that would improve its compatibility with coating medical implants.
Discovered that this formulation of CMC would not be a viable material for this technology.
Collaborated with faculty to determine future avenues of research for this technology, including changing the antimicrobial and altering the structure of the CMC.
