Software Engineering student at the University of North Carolina Wilmington, after transferring from Chowan University. I am currently developing a strong foundation in Python and am learning Java as part of my coursework.
Beyond programming languages, I have gained experience in discrete mathematics, data structures, GitHub and command-line tools, the software development life cycle, and object-oriented programming and design. I am also studying software analysis and have academic experience in German.
Outside of academics, I am a member of the UNCW Swim Club, where I qualified for CCS Nationals and earned Silver in a relay. I am currently training for the 2026 national championships while maintaining a strong commitment to my academic work.
Professionally, I have experience as an Ocean Rescue Lifeguard in Kure Beach, where I participated in lifeguard competitions while completing summer coursework. I have also worked as a Food Runner at the Figure Eight Island Yacht Club. Across both academics and employment, I am adaptable, quick to learn, and comfortable asking questions when faced with unfamiliar challenges. I believe in both strong teamwork and independent responsibility.
The Kure Beach Ocean Rescue program is managed by the Kure Beach Fire Department. It provides water and beach safety services along the town’s shoreline. The team is seasonal, consisting of a team of lifeguards, including a Head Lifeguard and or Captains. Operations are conducted from ten evenly distributed tower locations along the beach strand.
Lifeguards respond to all public safety emergencies on the beach. These include ocean rescues, water-related incidents, and medical emergencies. Personnel use a fleet of specialized rescue vehicles. This includes a Honda Pioneer and Honda ATVs, which ensure rapid response across the beach. All staff members are trained to a minimum of First Responder certification, as well as a vigorous two-week training period before starting duties on the beach, with several team members holding Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) credentials. Lifeguards work closely with the Kure Beach Police Department and maintain a strong cooperative partnership with the Carolina Beach Ocean Rescue Department to provide coordinated emergency services and public safety coverage.
Kure Beach Ocean Rescue is a recognized agency of the United States Lifesaving Association (USLA). USLA is a national professional organization dedicated to reducing aquatic-related deaths and injuries through standardized training, public education, and promotion of high-level lifeguard readiness and professional standards.
