  • Works on various fire apparatus responding from a fire station servicing approximately 7 square miles in a densely packed urban environment with an estimated population of 30,000 in the communities of Converse and San Antonio, Texas.
  • Receives hands on experience of structural and wildland firefighting, as well as emergency medical care through continuing education courses, hands-on training and operating on given emergency scenes.
  • Assists with all routine tasks in the community and around the fire station including emergency response to fire and medical calls, community relations, fire prevention, and equipment/station maintenance.
  • Trains as a part of an engine company, preforming operations of emergency services during a fire, medical aid, rescue, mass casualty, natural disaster, hazardous material spills, or acts of terrorism or mass destruction.
  • Tasked with a leadership role on shift to guide probationary firefighters to become skilled firefighters and pass the one year probationary period .
  • Responsible for understanding fire technologies such as hoses, fire attack strategy, maintaining physical fitness, nozzle applications, tools, fittings, appliances, power equipment and tools, forcible entry and ventilation functions, ladder operations, rescue and emergency medical response procedures.
  • Responsible for operating as an EMT-B under medical direction of Dr. Everitt with UT health under advanced EMS protocols. Tasked with understanding how to perform basic functions as an EMT-B, and advanced medical applications such as drilling intraosseous needles, establishing supraglottic airways, and providing doses of medications as listed in standing protocols within Bexar County.
