Becoming a Reno Firefighter has been my goal for as long as I can remember, and I have done everything in my power to achieve that goal as soon as possible. Starting with joining the Reno Fire Explorers when it first originated, where I have learned countless skills regarding firefighting, and built on various traits like the importance of punctuality and work ethic. Around the same time, I started working in construction because I was aware that the skills and traits I would obtain while working there would help prepare me for a future in fire. Skills such as working with hand and power tools, operating various saws, towing trailers, etc. Following my time in construction, as soon as I turned 18 and was eligible, I applied for and joined a handcrew. Wildland firefighting interested me for the same reasons construction did, I knew that it would teach me skills to better prepare me for a future in fire. I have been promoted to the position of a sawyer on my handcrew, and have been assigned my own saw team. This position has not only pushed me to work as hard as I can for long periods of time, but has also taught me how to effectively lead and organize a team of people and how to make decisions based off of my own observations and judgement. To conclude, a career as a Reno Firefighter has been and will continue to be my main goal, and I will continue to chase any opportunity that may get me closer to achieving that goal.
