Tyler Viera

As a patrolman for the City of New Bedford, I respond to a wide range of calls that include medical emergencies, fires, motor vehicle accidents, domestic incidents, crowd control situations and mental health. I assist citizens in need, help maintain public safety, I often encounter people during the most difficult moments of their lives. My role is not only to enforce the law but also to offer support and reassurance—doing my part to make someone's worst day a little bit better. I patrol the north end sector of New Bedford and have been patrolling this part of the city for most of my career.

I worked as a freight handler, where I was responsible for unloading large tractor trailers by hand, and occasionally using a pallet jack for heavier loads. Each day, I moved between 2,500 to 3,000 pounds of product, ensuring efficient and safe handling. After unloading, I broke down pallets to a height of 61 inches and organized the products on the floor for food inspection. I also communicated directly with truck drivers, providing them with detailed breakdown sheets outlining the work completed inside their trailers.

I worked as an unarmed security guard at the Greater New Bedford Community Health Center, an urgent care facility, where I was responsible for monitoring security cameras and patrolling hallways, waiting areas, and the exterior of the building. I ensured the safety of medical staff by escorting them to the Elm Street garage after hours, and I completed incident reports when necessary. At the end of each day, I made sure the building was properly secured and locked, helping to maintain a safe environment for both staff and patients.
