I am currently working on my sociology degree with SCSU, hoping to secure an internship within the DOC and get hands on experience with daily operations within this department. I can adapt to almost any circumstance and will be sure to produce the best work possible under said circumstances. Even though hardly recognized for it, I always go above and beyond expectations with whatever it is I do. I am not afraid to ask questions when confused and I try to have a positive effect on any group I may be working with.
- During the summer and warmer weather, I work as a landscaper, performing tasks such as lawnmowing, weedwhacking, mulching, weeding, seeding & haying, and tree-limb cutting.
- During the winter I work the night shift making snow; we run air and water lines to snow guns, check snow quality, and ensure everything is running properly.
- These are my primary duties, but what I do is not limited to this. I could be digging trenches, searching for underground lines, or even be sent to help with ski lift work.
- Workers were required to take specific customer orders and slice, weigh, and package the product while minimizing waste.
- I often worked the closing shift, which entailed cleaning the whole deli, packaging or tossing any product left out, as well as storing a variety of refrigerated and heated food options.
- This position helped enhance my interpersonal skills. Sometimes having to deal with cruel or unruly customers.
- Typical duties consisted of lawnmowing and trimming, as well any necessary maintenance required which might arise on a given day.
- Working hours were from 5 AM to 1 PM.
- My biggest take-away from this job is that it is always preferred to take the time and do things correctly, quality over quantity; it was a golf course so everything needed to look the best it could.
