Work History

Reserve Officer

Grand Rapids Police Department
07.2024 - Current

During my internship over the summer at the Itasca County Sheriff's Office, I was also offered the opportunity to become a reserve officer with the Grand Rapids Police Department.

All work as a reserve officer is voluntary, and the schedule for volunteer work is extremely flexible. Despite this, my time as a reserve office has allowed me to become more familiar with the Grand Rapids community.

So far, I've volunteered for the Tall Timber Days Parade in August, where I gained experience helping to keep the parade organized.

Additionally, I attended National Night Out, held a few days after the parade, where I had the opportunity to act as a decoy for K9 apprehension work.

My experience as a reserve officer has provided me with valuable community engagement opportunities, event management experience, and hands-on involvement in specialized law enforcement activities. This has broadened my skills and deepened my connection with the Grand Rapids area.

Community Service Officer

Itasca County Sheriff's Office
06.2024 - 09.2024

As a Community Service Officer (CSO) with the Itasca County Sheriff's Office, I gained valuable experience in several key areas:

BLIGHT ENFORCEMENT: My Primary responsibility involved addressing blight issues in the towns of Calumet and Marble. This included writing warnings, citations and completing reports related to city ordinance violations.

SERVING PAPERS: I also issued tax redemptions papers to specific residents across the eastern side of Itasca County, which provided me with experience in handling official documentation and interacting with the public.

RIDE-ALONGS: I participated in numerous ride-alongs with officers, which allowed me to observe firsthand various law enforcement activates, expand my knowledge, and gain practical insights into day-to-day operations.

TRAINING PARTICIPATION: I had the opportunity to take part in various specialized trainings:

  • SWAT Training (Less Lethal Exposures): This focused on the use of less-lethal tactics and tools in law enforcement operations.
  • SWAT Training (Scenario-Based): Gained valuable insight into SWAT team operations through playing as an actor for their scenario-based training exercises.
  • K9 Officer Training: Participated in apprehension and detection work (as a decoy), learning about the role of K9 units in law enforcement.

These experiences have enhanced my understanding of law enforcement procedures and contributes significantly to my professional development. I am confident that the skills and knowledge I have gained will translate effectively into future roles within the field (or similar fields).

Employee

Range Regional Animal Rescue
11.2022 - 02.2024

As a shelter worker, I was responsible for providing care and veterinary support for both cats and dogs of various breeds, sizes, and temperaments. My duties included ensuring the animals had a safe, clean environment, assisting with veterinary treatments such as vaccinations and medications, and handling animals with diverse behaviors.

I also participated in community events like parades, which helped increase exposure for the shelter and promoted adoption opportunities. These events allowed me to connect with potential adopters, donors, and volunteers, enhancing the shelter's visibility and mission.

My experience as a shelter worker allowed me to develop strong care skills, handle animals with varying temperaments, and engage in community outreach to raise awareness for the shelter. This role gave me valuable experience in both animal welfare and public engagement.
