  • I worked 14 days with White Mountain Apache Tribal Fuels. During my time there we patrolled all over the reservation looking out for smoke. I learned all the parts on a stihl 460 chainsaw, how to take all the aparts off and how to put it all back together. My time there we spent some days brush piling the area that’s getting thinned out.
  • I worked 16 days with the Fort Apache Engines. I learned all about the engines. I learned how to prime the pump, how to turn on the pump, how to draft water, hook up different sizes of the hoses. I learned how to get the weather with the weather kit. I learned about maps, how to pinpoint the specific area of the fire. I was able to respond to multiple fires on the reservation. My first fire I responded to the Seven Mile Fire #1 and Seven Mile Fire #2. I was able to turn on the pump and stray out the fire. Both fires were only .10 of an acre. The second fire I responded to the Pacheta Fire, it was a single snag burning. We hiked in and cleared a road way for the engine to back up to the fire. The third fire I responded to was the Geronimo Fire, this fire was 4 acres big. We hiked into the top of the ridge, this day I helped dig line around the fire. The fourth fire I responded to was the Velasquez Fire, this was a single snag burning. We hiked into some steep country and I was able to located the fire, I flagged the trail going into the fire. The fifth fire I responded to was the Rattlesnake Fire, this fire was a single snag burning. We cleared a road to the fire, turned on the pump and ran a hose to the fire and burned it out.
