I was born in the United States. My parents are german and we moved back when I was 3 years old. I grew up in Germany , with a 2 year break as my father moved to Argentina for work. We grew up speaking german, learned english in school and spanish while living in Argentina. My dream was to be a preschool teacher since I was very young and after 10th grade, in Germany, I moved on to achieve my degree as a preschool teacher.
In Germany this degree takes 4 years. I studied math and english, what makes the degree compatible to a Bachelors degree in the States. The Title of my Germany degree does not translate into a title degree here. I do have my german degree translated by an official translating company and can show that if preferred. During my studies in Germany, we had 2 years of school and the last 2 years were in school and partial internships in preschools. We have worked and seen different schools with many curriculums to cover a wide range of curriculum and teaching styles and all age group's from infant to school age's. We have looked and learned many different teaching approaches with in those years. We learned about Friedrich Froeble, Reggio Emilia and Maria Montessori and the influence of many European studies to improve education.
I moved to Virginia Beach 2007, to become fluent in english and worked as a live- in nanny (Aupair). I lived with the family for 16 years. When their second child started Kindergarten, I started working part time as a preschool teacher and full time the next year, at my current job.
I have been a Lead teacher at my current job for 5 years, in the 2 year old classroom and up to Pre-k. The last two years I have been working with the 3 year olds turning 4. I have loved guiding them along their way to be the best they each individually can be and being prepared to be ready to learn in the pre -k classrooms.
I love many aspects of the Montessori teachings and am very interested in learning and experiencing the Guidepost Montessori way.
Sincerely Ulrike Diehl
