Work History

Research Associate

Department of Epidemiology, Mel and Enid Zuckerman’s School of Public Health, University of Arizona
01.2023 - Current
  • I contribute to one of the largest longitudinal studies of postmenopausal women in the United States, encompassing more than 160,000 participants. My work focuses on body composition, cardiovascular disease, and cancer outcomes, where I have achieved 100% accuracy in cleaning and merging over 20,000 records from WHI sub-studies, ensuring analysis-ready datasets. I collaborate with a team of epidemiologists, biostatisticians, and oncologists to design analytic plans, prepare tables and figures, and contribute to abstracts accepted at national conferences such as CUGH 2025 and NACP 2025. By introducing standardized SAS coding templates, I reduced data processing time by 30%, improved reproducibility, and supported the development of peer-reviewed manuscripts currently under submission. Principal Investigator: Jennifer Bea PhD.

Study Coordinator

Department of International Research Center of Excellence (IRCE), Institute of Human Virology Nigeria (IHVN)
01.2020 - 01.2021
  • As Study Coordinator for the Prospective Cohort Study of Non-Communicable Diseases among HIV-Infected Individuals in Nigeria, led by Alash’le Abimiku, PhD, I managed all aspects of study implementation across multiple sites.
  • I supervised 16 research nurses and scientists, coordinated participant recruitment of over 2,600 HIV-infected individuals and 535 HIV-uninfected controls, and ensured high retention through structured follow-up visits every six months.
  • I was responsible for training staff, maintaining study documents, managing ethics approval renewals, overseeing participant stipends, and maintaining study inventory.
  • I also ensured timely distribution of results and follow-up testing, which improved continuity of care and compliance with study protocols.
  • Through my leadership, the study achieved above 90% data completeness and produced high-quality datasets that continue to support analyses on cardiometabolic disorders, cancers, and kidney disease among people living with HIV.

Study Coordinator

Department of IRCE, IHVN
01.2019 - 01.2021
  • As Study Coordinator for the BRIDGE Study, “Assessing the feasibility and acceptability of a mobile health intervention to improve breast cancer early detection and strengthen the referral process for women with breast symptoms in North-Central Nigeria”: PI Dr. Elima Jedy-Agba.
  • I oversaw the design and implementation of a novel Android-based referral App. This tool linked six primary healthcare centers with a tertiary hospital, enabling the swift referral of more than 500 women with breast cancer symptoms for timely diagnosis and care.
  • I coordinated protocol development, secured and renewed ethics approvals, organized team meetings, and led community engagement and advocacy visits to local gatekeepers.
  • I facilitated training sessions, conducted key participant interviews with community health workers and nurses, and held focus group discussions with women presenting breast complaints. Using MAXQDA software, I performed qualitative analyses to identify barriers and facilitators of referral uptake.
  • I directly supervised over 12 research assistants and nurses, managed the study budget, prepared reports for the PI, and ensured adherence to timelines.
  • Importantly, I disseminated findings as a presenter at the Cancer Conference 2020, further highlighting the feasibility and acceptability of mobile health–enabled referral systems to improve early cancer detection in resource-limited settings.

Study Coordinator

Department of IRCE, IHVN
01.2018 - 01.2021
  • As Study Coordinator for the TRACING Study, “Mycobacterium tuberculosis infection rates among healthcare workers in an HIV care and treatment center in Nigeria”: PI Dr. Evazezi Okpokoro.
  • I was responsible for implementing comprehensive TB infection control (TBIC) measures across 14 healthcare facilities in Abuja and Nasarawa.
  • I facilitated TBIC training for over 1,200 healthcare workers in North-Central Nigeria, coordinated and supervised activities in 14 hospitals across two states, and successfully managed and executed the project within a limited budget.
  • I assisted in the development of study protocols, oversaw site activities at seven facilities, and liaised with key stakeholders to ensure smooth implementation.
  • I also supported sample collection for latent TB screening, monitored accurate data entry into REDCap in compliance with study guidelines, and ensured proper transport of biological samples for testing using QuantiFERON-TB Gold Plus.
  • In addition, I recruited and onboarded new staff, organized and attended weekly meetings, provided project updates, and worked closely with the compliance and finance officers to reconcile weekly account balances. Through these efforts, I directly contributed to high-quality data capture and strengthened infection control capacity across HIV care and treatment sites.

Research Associate/Site Supervisor

Department of IRCE, IHVN
01.2016 - 01.2017
  • Prospective cohort study of African Collaborative Center for Microbiome and Genomics Research's (ACCME's) Human Papillomavirus (HPV) and cervical cancer Study. Principal Investigator: Prof. Clement Adebamawo.
  • I worked as part of a team that recruited 10,000 HIV negative women in Abuja for a cervical cancer screening. Our study site recruited about 1800 participants on our site with over 92% retention rate. I was the site supervisor and ensured site activities were in accordance with study protocol. Organised community mobilization for cervical cancer sensitization and screening. Collected biological samples (blood, urine, and exfoliated cervical cells) using aseptic techniques. Appraised research assistants and developed reports on study progress.

01.2015 - 01.2016
  • The H3A Diabetes Study: A multi-centre study of the prevalence and environmental and genetic determinants of type 2 diabetes in sub-Saharan, Study. Principal Investigator: Prof. Clement Adebamawo.
  • Explained research to participants and obtained informed consent. I collected biological samples (blood and urine) from participants using aseptic techniques. Checked fasting blood sugar, vital signs, height, and weight. Health educated community members on healthy lifestyles. Administrated electronic questionnaires and exported data. Transported samples to the biorepository laboratory. Distributed results and counselled accordingly. As the team leader, I was in charge of all financial matters and reported directly to the study coordinator.
