Work History

Lead Education Specialist

L4L Desert Sands Charter High School
02.2023 - Current
  • As supervising teacher (ST), I am responsible for the high school education of all students on my caseload (24). From the first moment they step on campus, I facilitate their orientation, introduce them to staff members and begin to work on a plan that will work best for the student and their particular needs. This includes building their master agreement with courses the student will need for their specific goals (i.e. graduation, transfer, etc.) as well as helping the student choose a schedule that works for them.
  • As IEP case manager, I update student IEPs annually or when they first enroll to make sure that all information is accurate, up to date, and legally defensible within the independent study model. I use data from NWEA, state tests, student work samples and historical academic performance to write an IEP that is not only compliant, but also a unique representation of the student and a clear plan to follow for success.
  • As Lead, I collaborate with all staff to ensure the mechanisms of our large special education team are running well. I support teachers with best practices, data tracking development, as well as serving within the Extended Leadership Team, as needed. I work with high profile students and students with high needs.
