Dedicated Paraeducator with 18 years of experience supporting students with significant disabilities. I am patient and empathetic, while still challenging my students to learn and grow. I have extensive experience supporting students in one-on-one, and small group settings. I also have worked extensively with classroom teachers and district specialists on behavior and IEP plans to help individual students succeed. Some of my strengths are building strong interpersonal relationships with students and coworkers. I am respected for my professionalism, work ethic, and ability to excell even with some of our most challenging students. I am also a valuable team player and am respected for my ability to look at situations from different perspectives and ability to defuse conflicts.
I have experience in most subject area's but my passion is Health and physical education. I have assisted with Life Skills teachers and general education teachers in planning and implementing adapted physical education activities for students with disabilities. I have also planned, organized, and implemented a individual rock climbing progrm for a student who was not able to participate in a classroom setting due to a dissability.
I am a former High School and Collage track athlete who followed that passion for athletics and a physically active lifestyle into the health and human performance program at the University of Montana where I graduated with a degree in physical education. I was a Montana certified teacher from 2002 to 20012.
I was also a successful track coach for 9 years at Big Sky High School . I coached numerous individual state champions, one all class state record holding relay team, and 3 state track and field team champions. I coached special olympics for 15 years, and I am still involved in a more limited capacity.
I am and avid outdoorsman, current professional fly fishing guide and former professional mountain guide. I also coached track, special olympics and spend a lot of time fishing and hunting and sharing the outdoors with my daughter. I am also a experienced wood worker, handy man and tinker who expresses his artistic site with my hands. I am a single father of a 5 year old so one of my main hobbies now is experiencing new activities with my daughter.
I am a native Montanan and have lived in the Missoula area for the last 25 years. I have a love for teaching and love sharing my passions with others and watching them develop the skills to do things on their own. I have been employed with Missoula County public schools from the time I graduated U of Montana as a substitute teacher between my mountain guiding seasons. I transitioned to a Para Educator in life skills in the early 2000's and have stayed in that role ever since. I love what I do, the community of educators and professionals I work with at Big Sky High School, and the students I work with. I love all that Missoula and western Montana has to offer. I have spent almost my entire educational career at Big Sky High School. I am looking to grow and challenge myself using my experience knowledge to branch out into a different position with new roles and responsibilities. I have preexisting professional relationships to the health enhancement staff and I am familiar with the curriculum they teach. My knowledge base, extensive experience working with students of all abilities, and connections to the Big Sky High School community make me an excellent candidate for the Health Enhancement position.
