Veterinary Technician/Receptionist/Supervisor

Southbay Veterinary Hospital, Chula Vista
03.2016 - 01.2021

I started with being a kennel assistant helping the nurses with their duties and quickly worked my way up to become a technician within a few weeks solely based on the knowledge that i have gained from carefully listening and observing my peers. I later stepped up and became dual qualified as a shift lead and receptionist for the hospital, those duties required multitasking under pressure in a very high paced and high workload environment. This environment involved tasks such as greeting our clientele as they entered our hospital while I simultaneously answered multiple phone lines and gathered client information in a loud facility, where finally the phone call was complete by making their appointment, refilling their medication or setting up a surgical appointment. I later went on to becoming a supervisor of a wonderful team that taught me leadership and compassion for those all around me. I gained an amazing team, and knowledge on how to strategically plan, delegate tasks to my team, as well as how to problem solve an issue at hand.

  • Other responsibilities I had as a supervisor were ordering the hospital supplies and medications we needed on hand, handling and ordering controlled substances and medications, assisting in surgery, imaging, and taking history in exam rooms.
  • I place catheters on our patients and collected blood samples to send out to laboratories.
  • Helped care for individual patients by applying top-notch clinical judgment and abilities.
  • Managed and adjusted schedules for 30+ employees.
  • Worked closely with resources and budget management.
  • Managed performance of 30+ nursing staff and reviewing task completion.
  • Applied clinical judgment and comprehensive knowledge of facility policies to assist floor nurses with patient care decisions.
  • Performed new-hire interviews and when needed, was in charge of disciplinary actions for work related issues.
  • Trained other nurses on patient care, daily tasks, supporting growth and professional development.

As a sales associate i had the responsibility of interacting with the public at a fast pace environment while multitasking my position as a team leader and handling merchandise with care and with an energetic positive attitude. I listened and followed instructions from my manager to increase the work flow and increased our team skills as a store. I am pleased to have worked at this location for 2 years right after graduating high school, it had taught me how to work as a team about cleanliness as well as gaining customer service skills , multitasking, and most important responsibility.
