Summary

I have experience working as a graduate student at California Institute of Technology, and before that as an Assistant Research Intern at Scripps Institution of Oceanography from my time in the Scripps Undergraduate Research Fellowship (SURF) Program. I have been working on becoming a climate researcher since I began college in 2016, and am very glad to have had the chance to gain some experience in doing so. I am diligent, hardworking, and passionate to continue developing as an Atmospheric Scientist.

Work History

Graduate Student Researcher

California Institute Of Technology
07.2023 - Current
  • Interpreted and analyzed size distribution data to characterize new particle formation events in Pico Rivera, CA
  • Prepared written reports, presentations, tables and graphs to summarize research results.
  • Used Python and MATLAB to prepare and manipulate extensive databases.
  • Collaborated with academic colleagues on areas of shared research interest such as:
  • Modeling chamber experiments to determine the ability of ethoxyethanol to form secondary organic aerosol.
  • Using size distribution data and chemical composition data from the Pico River field site to begin to determine the potential sources of new particles in this region.

Visiting Researcher

CERN
09.2024 - 11.2024

CLOUD17 Experiment - A long-term atmospheric chamber study focused on determining the gaseous precursors and conditions necessary for atmospheric new particle formation

  • Aided in experimental setup and procedures
  • Participated in calibration of instrumentation prior to the start of experiment
  • Conducted Instrument Maintenance
  • Participated in outreach activities by giving interactive presentations about the CLOUD experiment to high school students

Special Studies Student

Scripps Institution Of Oceanography, UCSD
09.2022 - 03.2023
  • Special Studies (SIO 199) with PI Dr. Amato Evan at Scripps Institution of Oceanography (Independent research class)
  • Research in this class has been primarily focused on getting instruments (cloud droplet probes and sonic anemometers) ready for weather tower I built
  • As part of SIO 199 I was able to go out to Salton Sea during dust storm and our lab team was able to test-run tower

Research Assistant Intern

Scripps Institution Of Oceanography, UCSD
06.2022 - 08.2022
  • Worked with PI Dr. Amato Evan
  • Built weather tower that will be used to increase volume of experimental data on dust activity during Salton Sea dust storms
  • Learned how to operate cloud droplet probes
  • Planned and executed new method to mount cloud droplet probes onto weather tower
  • Presented work, titled "Characterizing Dust Size Distributions in the Surface Atmospheric Boundary Layer around the Salton Sea" at the 2022 Summer Research Conference at UC San Diego
  • Planned, modified and executed research techniques, procedures and tests.
  • Supported research and development efforts to create new products, equipment and processes.
  • Researched and interpreted large volumes of scientific data and literature.

Research Assistant Intern

Scripps Institution Of Oceanography, UCSD
06.2021 - 08.2021
  • Worked with PI Dr. Lynn Russell
  • Analyzed aerosol size distribution data from Layered Atlantic Smoke Interactions With Clouds campaign
  • Presented poster titled "Analyzing Aerosol Size Distributions over Ascension Island during Biomass Burning And Clean Marine Seasons" at 2021 SURF Student Symposium
  • Conducted analysis of beach foam samples from Scripps Pier using Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy
