In addition to performing all analysis in the laboratory, as a Lead Microbiology Analyst, I am responsible for:

• Successfully leading a small team to ensure all analysts are performing microbiology analysis accurately with correct documentation.
• Serving as a resource for all questions from clients, project managers, and analysts regarding the microbiology laboratory practices and services.
• Entering and reviewing microbiological data for accuracy to be reported to the state.
• Properly using pipettes, autoclaves, water baths, incubators, dry ovens, hoods, scales, and thermometers while maintaining correct temperatures, quality control and up to date maintenance logs.
• Maintaining and troubleshooting advanced instrumentation.

Perform all Analyst I Microbiology analysis in addition to:

• EPA Method 546: Determination of Total Microcystins and Nodularins in Drinking Water and Ambient Water by ADDA Enzyme-Linked Immunosorbent Assay (ELISA).
• Legiolert Method: Enumeration Quantitray method for the detection of Legionella pneumophila in drinking water.
• Inhibitory Residue: The suitability of glassware for microbiological testing.
• Water Suitability: The determination of the presence of substances that promote or inhibit microbiological growth in laboratory reagent water.
• Iron Related Bacteria: Iron Related Bacteria IRB Biological Activity Reaction Test.

Perform Microbiology analysis including:

• EPA Method 9215: Heterotrophic Plate Count
• EPA Method 9223: Colilert-18 Enzyme Substrate Test for Total Coliform and E. coli Presence/Absence
• EPA Method 9223 B: Enumeration Colilert-18 Quantitray method for Total Coliform and E. coli
• EPA Method 9230: Multiple Tube Fermentation-Multiple Dilution for Fecal Streptococcus and E. faecalis
• EPA Method 9230 D: Enumeration Enterolert Quantitray method for E. faecalis
• EPA Method 9131: Multiple Tube Fermentation-Multiple Dilution for Total Coliform, E. coli, and Fecal Coliform
• AOAC 990.12: Aerobic Plate Count (Petrifilm)
• AOAC 991.14: Total Coliform and E. coli (Petrifilm)
• AOAC 2014.05: Rapid Yeast and Mold (Petrifilm)
• API 20E: Microbiological Speciation

• Collate work orders with their corresponding chain of custody and review for the accuracy of bottle type, preservative and volume required for analysis, and verify the number of bottles received.
• Assist the shipping department in preparing bottle orders and subcontract orders to be shipped to clients.
• Screen samples for electric conductivity, chlorine, PH, and add the appropriate neutralizing agent when necessary.
• Split, flocculate, filter, and preserve samples with strong acids and bases and neutralize waste when necessary.
