As a correctional counselor, I supervise correctional officers during the performance of their day-to-day job duties. Working as a correctional counselor, I am responsible for ensuring inmates' needs are met, including the issuance of all basic Core Civic and TDOC items, such as uniforms and hygiene items, as well as providing basic inmate information. I supervise, support, and mentor new staff assigned to the housing units. I prepare units for sanitation inspections and audits. I ensure all inmates' files are completed accurately and in a timely manner. I am responsible for ensuring all unit paperwork and inmate files are in compliance with audit and contract requirements. I complete data entry and filing. Schedule meetings and provide customer service to the public by answering incoming calls. I also provide assistance to other departments when needed.
As a correctional officer, I am responsible for the safety and security of the inmates in our care, as well as the staff and visitors inside the institution. I enforce rules and keep order by enforcing rules and regulations. I maintain security by settling disputes between inmates, preventing disturbances, assaults, and escape. I enforce regulations through effective communication and the use of progressive sanctions, which involve punishments such as loss of privileges. I supervise the daily activities of inmates, ensuring that inmates obey the rules. They must also ensure the whereabouts of all inmates at all times. Officers also escort prisoners between the institution and courtrooms, medical facilities, and other destinations. I conduct searches of inmates and their living areas for contraband, such as weapons and drugs. In addition, officers are responsible for screening visitors and incoming mail to ensure contraband is not brought into the prison or jail. I periodically inspect the facility to ensure audit compliance. \Check cells and other areas for unsanitary conditions, contraband, signs of a security breach (such as tampering with window bars and doors), and any other evidence of violations of the rules. I report any inmate who violates the rulesI am responsible for writing reports and filling out daily logs detailing inmate behavior, and anything else of note that occurred during their shift.
I have completed MKL and ICS trainings I am skilled in behavioral management I have great communication with staff and with inmates I am also very experienced in de-escalating situations in order to gain compliance
