Manage care for critically ill cardiac, thoracic, and vascular surgical patients such as heart transplants, bilateral lung transplants, heart valve replacements/repairs, esophageal repairs/perforations, lobectomy/pneumonectomy, coronary-artery bypass grafts, aortic aneurysm/dissection repairs, heart failure, etc.
Perform continuous hemodynamic monitoring via arterial lines, central lines, and pulmonary artery catheters.
Manage multiple vasoactive drips, inotropes, antiarrhythmics, and high-alert medications to maintain hemodynamic stability and sedation levels.
Utilize, monitor, and intervene with patients on advanced therapies, including mechanical ventilation, nitric oxide, and continuous renal replacement therapy (CVVH/CVVHD), to maintain respiratory/cardiovascular stability, and fluid and electrolyte balance.
Provide care for patients with mechanical circulatory support devices (IABP, Impella, LVAD, RVAD, ECMO).
Rapidly assess and intervene on acutely decompensating patients in rapid response and code blue situations, and assist with emergent intubations and invasive device placement, including chest tubes and hemodynamic monitoring lines.
Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including surgeons, physicians, physical therapists, occupational therapists, nutritionists, transplant coordinators, and nursing support staff, to assess, plan, and implement individual patient care plans.
Serve as a charge nurse, resource nurse, and preceptor to both nursing students and new graduate nurses, to support education and professional growth.
