My role within the Emergency assessment unit is to care for critically ill patients and transferring them to their appropriate wards for further management whilst available. We give 24-hour care to patients with continuous monitoring to prevent deterioration. We make sure that district nurse referrals are sent out if needed before getting discharge. We act as patient advocate by escalating probable abuse or self-harm issues. We also educate patients by explaining the use of their take home and in-hospital medications. As EAU nurses we have to be quick and efficient to be able to deliver utmost care even if our ward is just a short stay one.
