As a relief operator my job consists of maintaining a clean and safe work area. It requires me to make sure we are running quality steel by cutting and checking samples off our cooling bed. Assist with setting mill stands up for production. It requires me to make adjustments and production related decisions about the quality of our finished product. The job also requires me to trouble shoot any issues we have with our production equipment with our team. Assist and run cobbles by using a torch to cut them out or fly an over head crane to lift them out. It also requires me to learn and run the stocking pulpit and our number two speed pulpit. As a relief operator the sum of this position it to be help wherever help is needed weather that it cutting samples flying a crane running a pulpit or helping our finishing end team out to ensure production continues.

• Observe and learn roll mill procedures until I have gone through and completed safety orientation

• Maintain core stock table levels
• Haul scrap paper using fork lifts
• Assist helpers on the platform by breaking rolls apart, inserting numbers such as weight and length into the computer
• Assist with cleanup of blowouts
• Handle all faults in the packing system by clearing codes or resetting robots
• Assist winder operators with size changes

• Picking up and dumping molten slag pots from Nucor steels melt shop
• Operate heavy equipment

• I worked as a landscaper for the summer. It included operating heavy equipment, being out in the heat for extensive time periods, checking equipment, digging trenches, and using chemicals.
