Primary health consultant for the school who will develop and value strong nurse-family partnerships.

Promote and improve student attendance and academic performance.

Primary nursing role includes, identifying students’ health needs through a variety of resources: students, parents, school administration, health aides, and teachers.

Provide support according to district policies, guidelines, and protocols, as well as follow Colorado State health guidelines and Board of Nursing requirements through the Nurse Practice Act.

Apply nursing theory and utilize it as a basis for decision making to support the diverse health needs of all student populations while focusing on the empowerment of the school climate and culture.

The district RN is an indirect supervisor of the health aide since all training and delegation come from protocols developed by the department of Health Services and under the district RN’s delegation

• Create and revise all health plans for individualized health care needs while at school.
• Ensure all health conditions are up to date and flagged in campus using the current flagging protocol.
• Provide direct nursing care or provide training and delegation to selected unlicensed staff including the health aide, paras, secretaries, and possibly at times, teachers and/or coaches.
• Consistent and constant monitoring and training for all delegated staff.
• Consistent and constant documentation
• Query special education students, complete the health portion of the initial and re-evaluation of IEPs.
• Continue to help administrative teams through the 504 process and add valuable medical information for accommodations.

Nurse Response Team (NRT):

• Immediate Responders inside the school setting once the scene is safe.
• Accurately assess those wounded and provide treatment when possible.
• Triage students, staff, and guests to ensure those in need of immediate medical care are transported first.
• Serve as the communication link between school staff and Emergency Medical Services (EMS).
• Work with the Incident Commander during the Reunification process to establish a first aid site, and have immediate access to every student to ensure all medical needs are being assessed and treated appropriately.
• Teach and perform Stop The Bleed (STB) to staff and community members.

• Monitored and recorded patient condition, vital signs, recovery progress and medication side effects.
• Administered medications, tracked dosages and documented patient conditions.
• Coordinated care with physicians and other clinical staff to prepare for treatment, carry out interventions and enhance continuum of care to deliver comprehensive services.
• Conducted patient assessments and diagnostic tests to provide physician with important patient health information.
• Acted as patient advocate and implemented total patient care through team nursing process covering one to three high acuity patients per shift.
• Boosted patient outcomes by prioritizing nursing tasks and assignments and accurately reporting on each patient's status.
• Cared for patients in recovery from medical procedures by caring for wounds, monitoring vitals and managing pain.
• Instructed patients, caregivers and families on diagnoses, treatment options and self-management to maintain continuity of care.
• Performed blood and blood product transfusions and intravenous infusions to address patient symptoms or underlying causes.
• Maintained composure and efficiency during rapid response situation and emergency codes.
