Supervised a crew of four for night shift. Responsible for treatment and chemical additions for safe drinking water. Also ensured that the water leaving the plant was delivered to numerous reservoirs and storage tanks as well as holding the proper chlorine residual for short term storage. Safety was also important and followed good work practices. Our department received record for ten years worked with no injuries. Security of the plant, storage tanks, and reservoirs was also a prime concern. Work hours were 2300-0700 with required on call status on weekends. One plant was rated at 44MGD and used modern membrane filtration. The other was a 26 MGD standby plant using coal / sand and coagulant process.
As a supervisor I was required to work often as crew when needed.
Light maintenance of equipment as well as monitoring the water treatment of two treatment plants and one large storage tank. Job included changing chlorine tanks and adding daily chemicals from bulk containers as well as lab procedures for testing water quality. Plant was rated at 18-25 MGD but could produce more for a short time for fire control.
