  • Significant achievements include:
  • Created the initial Value Proposition and Business Model Canvases to guide creation of the Advocate Health Ambulatory Surgery Center Development department. This included direct discussions with physician leaders to clarify the understanding and final version of the canvas documents. Also helped develop, evaluate and negotiate the initial proposal to form the department with an external partner.
  • Guided the development of the innovative business model for a remote heart failure monitoring and management system, in close coordination with multiple cardiovascular physician leaders. This strategic initiative has required coordination of enterprise resources and capabilities for the comprehensive market and opportunity assessment leading to the service being established enterprise-wide before extending to external clients.
  • Innovation lead for the creation of the enterprise hospital at home service, in response to strategic patient care needs arising from the COVID pandemic, and continuing based on market opportunities. This role involved guiding the development process with a team of physicians and coordinating enterprise resources to rapidly implement, evaluate and improve operations for key operating metrics. This service is now the largest hospital at home function in the country, serving up to 150 patients daily.
  • Provided structured customer understanding and business model guidance for the development of Collaborative Physician Association (CPA), a clinically integrated network between Atrium Health and local physicians. This included coordination and facilitation of a CPA Physician Board retreat to refine customer need and the resulting business practices.
  • Co-led the structured understanding and business model development for Atrium Health Community Clinics, including the service model creation, new model pilot implementation and capital and operating planning for future model roll out.
  • Led a partner evaluation process for retail primary care models, resulting in negotiating and executing a LOI with ChenMed. Led internal due diligence, legal assessment and external negotiation for a potential strategic partnership.
  • Established and enhanced the multi-disciplinary innovation process based on proven customer-discovery and business optimization theories, with guidance from international experts. Created a system-wide committee of operational and support experts to ensure integration of corporate functions for development opportunity identification, testing and implementation, as well as an executive guidance committee to align functional activities with corporate strategic priorities.

  • Significant achievements include:
  • Directed the development of the system’s first four healthcare pavilions, which was an innovative growth business model which included a free-standing emergency department, outpatient ancillary services and medical offices. This required coordination and collaboration of numerous physician and operational leaders, enterprise services and community services to design and develop a common vision, standardize operational processes across centers, and create synergies to perform successfully on a series of unified operational standards. The process included creation of an operational performance system to establish, monitor and enhance a set of comprehensive analytics, productivity benchmarks, industry trends, market growth measures and performance improvement initiatives. All facilities exceeded volume and financial projections by between 10% and more than 100%.
  • Served as strategy lead for the development of a new rural health care model at CMC Anson. Responsible for international research, model development based on customer need assessment and strategic growth goals, market analysis, facility design, site selection, capital planning and final approval by the enterprise Board of Trustees. The model has received national acclaim and awards for its improvement in patient and community engagement, and as a model for care in underserved areas.
  • Led Market Development activities for Gaston County and served on leadership team for four additional market development teams. This role focused on driving new strategic growth initiatives through comprehensive market analysis, opportunity assessment, site selection, expansion of existing services, capital planning and successful execution and ongoing evaluation of approved projects. This function required coordinating enterprise resources and capabilities including corporate functions integration, in collaboration with market operational leaders and physicians to establish and maintain strategic relationships.
  • Served as strategy lead for the creation of West Stanly Imaging Center, a joint venture between Carolinas Healthcare System and Stanly Regional Medical Center. Also served on the partnership Board of Managers, collaborating with enterprise operational leaders and physicians to oversee the strategy and operation of the service.
  • Led the market and financial assessment, operational planning, capital planning, approval and implementation of multiple new service locations for new market entry or expanded market development. These included primary care medical offices, specialty services centers, urgent care centers and ancillary services.

  • Served as strategy lead for the market analysis, opportunity assessment, syndication, facility planning, internal and community approval, and development of Presbyterian Hospital of Flower Mound, a 120-bed, full-service hospital joint-ventured with over 100 physicians.   • Participated in the development and implementation of a new system-wide Joint Venture Oversight and Management Plan to mitigate compliance, regulatory and operating risks for THR partnerships.
