Work History

Landscape Design & Instalation

HartOrganics- Self Employed
08.2016 - 10.2023

As a self employed designer, I covered all aspects operating my own design and install company. Formulating leads for potential customers, understanding clients needs, and budgets were some of the essentials in process. I specialized in drought tolerant landscapes that required little to no water. This was a large benefit for a lot of my clients as it was helpful in the lawn credits that were being given out by the city and county of San Diego. I managed different sized crews on multiple installs per year.

Designer

SoCal Design Build
08.2021 - 05.2023

Transitioning right out of college, this opportunity presented itself from good relations with the career services rep at our school. She knew the owner and thought this would be a great fit for me fresh out of college. I started as assistant designer with responsibilities that included drafting revisions from client meetings, estimating material costs, organizing design files, and assisting with design intent. Within a year I was asked to take a lead designer role to help with the intake of more clients. This allowed me to run and manage the design studio from first client interaction to permitted construction plans. The scope of our work included small remodels, including bathrooms and kitchens, ADU's, and all the way up to moderate size custom homes. Project management was also a key role as the lead designer in a small firm. Organizing trades around client schedules, and contributing to their success in the field was very important as well. This experience provided me the foundation to move to commercial construction.

Professor

MiraCosta College
08.2023 - Current

I currently teach Hort 220- Landscape Design and Graphic Applications. This class is in the evenings on Monday's. The cubiculum involves getting students comfortable with taking their creative design ideas from paper to a conceptual presentation via digital media. This includes introducing students to the basics of AutoCAD and the plug-ins required to make a coherent digital landscape design with all the basic requirements such as dimensioning, labeling, text size, scale, and design intent. We work through visual representation with 3D software like Sketchup and Lumion. The goal is to create a presentation board to attract a potential client using the phases learned in class.

Project Manager

San Diego Sheet Metal
05.2023 - Current

Continuing to grow my knowledge in the construction world, I transferred to the role of a project manager of a commercial construction sub contractor, San Diego Sheet Metal. Some of the essentials as a PM here were to go over pre-bid documents and help estimators adjust proposals and communication with general contractor. Driving the submittal process, arranging material procurement, managing multiple projects, and budgets were also key objectives in my role. Being hands on during site meetings/investigations, coordination meetings with architects, and trouble shooting unforeseen conditions on site have all been crucial aspects of this position. I have managed contracts with companies that include Belfour-Beatty, McCarthy, Sundt, Swinerton, and others. I specialize in K-12 schools and hospital renovations that include OSHPD (HCAI) inspections. I have managed Gompers Prep Academy-Phase 1 metal roof, flashings, copings, and roof hatches. I was also the PM for all the sheet metal renovations and new building at Pacific Beach Elementary.

Some other notable projects include:

Seaworld Arctic Rescue-July 23'- Standing seam metal roof replacement on remodeled attraction.

RQ Construction-El Centro Fire Station-May 24' (for the blue angles)- Wall panels, expansion joints, general sheet metal scope.

Sharp Hospital Cental Equipment Plant- November 24'- General sheet metal, and custom flashings.
