Helped care for safety and mental well being of multiple students, as well engage them in philosophies and structure of the program. Through building close and personal relationships with students, I was able to assist them in working through different traumas, negative thoughts, and harmful behaviors. In crisis scenarios, aided in non pain compliant pcs style restraints to keep students from actively harming themselves.
Worked processing intakes, creating a safe and welcoming environment for students entering the program. Aided in processing often traumatizing and frightful experiences with third party transport companies. Drove students in and out of the field for medical appointments, calls with consultants and any other reason for returning to town. Very experienced and skilled with backcountry driving, with thousands of miles on dirt and unimproved roads, from fine grated main roads to unmaintained jeep trails. As backup driver worked to plan and set the movement of the groups in the field, by planning the daily hikes of each group then driving to the field to place their water and food drops, and clean the sites/drops left behind. Aided in any additional logistical problems that needed solving, as well additional staff support to groups in crisis.
Helped to manage multiple groups of students simultaneously, and aid in logistical support and movement of supplies and needs in and out of the field. Mentored existing staff and helped them through difficult situations. Helped train new staff in program philosophy and structure. First responder to any crisis scenario in the field, as well as extra support in struggling groups. Given Ozark tracks is a new program in a state without a wilderness history, the management is new to the wilderness industry. Using my experience and knowledge of the field, I helped to educate and teach management the ins and outs of the logistical and behind the scenes operating of a successful wilderness therapy program.
Helped care for the safety and mental health growth of groups of adolescents. Aided in the logistical management of the group through communication with base, planning of group movement through expedition planning, and communicating directly with the program backup driver. Continually showed collection under stress, successful management of crisis situations, including attempted runners, self harm, and attacks towards others in group. Continued growth in deescalation to manage situations before reaching crisis point if necessary, often successfully keeping situations from reaching that point. consistently stepped above my level into leadership of the group as a whole when needed and requested by senior staff.
