Summary

I am an experienced and dedicated professional with more than 18 years of experience in the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction. I have served at two facilities, Dayton Correctional Institution (DCI), and Franklin Medical Center (FMC). Throughout the course of my career, I have dealt with several situations that require calm, but decisive thinking under pressure. I have also developed and maintained time management skills. Additionally, my experiences have helped me with the ability to communicate effectively with various individuals from a diverse array of backgrounds and cultures. In my various roles and assignments through the years, I have also had to develop effective problem solving and analytical skills. I am also a collaborative member of the overall team. My current and past assignments and duties have necessitated me working effectively with various departments within the institution (medical, mental health, unit management, etc) in order to successfully meet the objectives and mission of the facilities in which I have worked in.

  • Directs all prison operations for assigned shift to include; conducting roll call briefings, evaluation of work performance of incarcerated individuals, evaluating employee performance, investigation of incidents for possible discipline, ensures orderly movement of incarcerated persons, conducts periodic inspection rounds to ensure compliance with all security, safety and sanitation, contraband, fire &/or other institutional regulations, policies & procedures.

• Directs security operations on assigned shift related to security, safety, custody, count procedures and control of incarcerated persons.
• Acts as Administrative Duty Officer in absence of Corrections Major.
• Monitors security threat group activity.
• Identifies and addresses security vulnerabilities.

• Supervises, evaluates and approves leave requests for Correction Lieutenants and custody staff.
• Provides instruction & training to subordinates & incarcerated persons with regards to institutional rules and regulations.
• Writes post orders which provides instructions to Correction Officers assigned to posts.

  • As the senior custody supervisor on shift, I provide guidance, mentoring, and instruction to Lieutenants as well as Corrections Officers assigned to shift.

• Maintains discipline.
• Acts as initial Incident Commander in the event of a critical incident.
• Meets & shares information with the Correction Specialists in all units. Additionally, assists Corrections Specialists with maintaining safe and secure housing units.
• Assists the Corrections Specialist in developing, implementing & enforcing unit plans.
• Attends meetings and performs related duties and security functions as requested.
• Completes daily logs & reports & responds to miscellaneous correspondences and makes periodic rounds.

  • Since November 2024, I have also served as the institutional Critical Incident Management Coordinator (CIM). In this role I facilitate and conduct drills to test the skills and competencies of all staff when responding to, as well as managing critical incidents. I am also responsible for ensuring departmental standards are met annually in regards to this training.
  • Since September 2024, I have been serving as the institutional backup to the Inspector of Institutional Services. In this role, I am responsible for maintaining the incarcerated person grievance procedure and ensuring the swift and effective investigation and resolution of complaints and grievances. I act on this role in the absence of the Institutional Inspector. And assist in managing and maintaining the grievance system daily.

  • Monitored and assisted with day to day direction of security operations for the institution.
  • Responsible for supervision of between 10-30 Corrections Officers for assigned shift.
  • Prepared schedules and assigned Corrections Officers to posts.

I also wrote and distributed memorandum to shifts. I was also responsible for scheduling of Corrections Officers. Additionally, I tracked drills and assignments for all four shifts.
  • Acted as local instructor for in service training.
  • Served as institutional tool/key control supervisor, responsible for the accountability of all tools, needles, syringes, and keys.
  • Served as a PREA Victim Support Person.
  • And was one of two supervisors who served as certified Crisis Intervention Team Officers (CIT).
  • And was often assigned to assist in site visits and audits at multiple correctional institutions.
  • Developed and maintained a vast working knowledge of custody operations within a medical environment. Over the course of six years in my role as Lieutenant at FMC, I had been assigned to all four shifts. This experience allowed me to see how all shifts functioned with regards to their operation, both independently, as well as in conjunction with FMC's overall medical mission.
  • My final assignment at Franklin Medical Center was as the HUB and Clinic Supervisor. In this capacity, I was responsible for directing the transfer process of incarcerated persons from one institution to the other. Additionally, as Clinic Supervisor I was responsible for overseeing the security operations of the FMC Clinic with duties such as coordinating record and property transfers, assigning officers to posts, and maintaining the overall security operation of the FMC clinic. These roles often involved critical thinking and communication skill as I often functioned as a custody liason between medical staff at both FMC and OSU Medical Center.
