The Kansas Chamber of Commerce is the lead business advocacy association in the state of Kansas for business owners with over 500 members. The Government Affairs team at the Kansas Chamber develops and implements political engagement strategy with elected state officials, regulatory officials, and key policymakers. The position of Sr. Dir of Government Affairs works under the VP of Government Affairs representing KS Chamber members in the statehouse. We also advise member organization executives on the impact of proposed legislation and determine the appropriate response.

  • Policy Lead on State level issues: HR, Healthcare, Education/Workforce Development and Retail Issues for Kansas Chamber Members at the Kansas Statehouse.
  • Assist lobbying efforts on State policy issues of: Taxes, Legal Reform, Regulatory Reform, and Energy Issues for Kansas Chamber Members at the Kansas Statehouse.

Key Legislative Wins:

  • 2024: Passed comprehensive Workers Compensation and Unemployment Insurance Reform.
  • With the passage of HB2570 (UI Reform) Kansas unemployment insurance tax ranking improved to 4th best in US from 16th according to the Tax Foundation 2025 State Tax Competitiveness Index
  • 2025: Passed four occupational licensing compacts reducing the burden to get to work in Kansas if an occupational licensing is needed
  • 2025: Defeated a bill mandating E-Verify on all employers with penalties that could have lead to a permanent revocation of ones business license
