NCDOT- Walnut Cove Bridge Maintenance.

I have working knowledge of standard bridge maintenance and construction procedures such as deck sweeping, drift removal, approach slab repair, beam repairs etc.,from my time with Walnut Cove Bridge.

I have demonstrated the ability to supervise and train others in safe and proper equipment operation to newly hired employees and have directed the daily activities of a crew in the absence of a TS I or TS II or if an additional project required another crew leader.

I have experience in the maintenance and installation of erosion control devices while performing work on small or large diameter pipe repair or replacements. The use of matting, straw and various type of aggregate stone are examples of erosion control devices used by the bridge department.

My experience and knowledge of work zone safety and NCDOT workplace safety policy and practices comes from certification in Basic and Intermediate work zone training, setting up/laying out lane closures on Interstate, Primary and Secondary roads with two and multi-lanes, conducting flagging operations, and setting up traffic cones, message signs and utilizing automatic flagger. Daily tailgate safety meetings and monthly safety meetings provide valuable information to myself and co-workers.

Experience operating the following equipment: Front End Loader, Tandem Dump Truck, Backhoe, Excavator, Air Compressor, JLG Manlift, Forklift, Skid Steer, Sweeper, Hydraplatform, Mobile Crane truck (truck mounted), Fixed cab boom truck. NCCO Certified Crane Operator.

Experience utilizing small hand tools such as shovels, rakes, brooms, post hole diggers, hammer, screwdriver, torch, chainsaw, two-way radio, etc. Experience with mixing, forming and finishing concrete for spall repairs and concrete headwalls that are part of pipe replacements. Experience with pipe installation and drainage maintenance. Experience with the installation of erosion control measures. Experience using a torch to cut and fit structural steel, tying reinforcing steel, rigging loads for lifting & transporting materials and equipment while utilizing a truck and trailer. Experience conducting flagging operations, layout and installation of traffic control on two lane roads and multi-lane roads. Experience in snow and ice removal and salt brine application.

• Calculate angles and courses and determine vertical and horizontal alignment of courses
• Apply and smooth mortar or other mixture over work surface
• Remove excess mortar with trowels and hand tools, and finish mortar joints with jointing tools, for a sealed, uniform appearance
• Lay and align bricks, blocks, or tiles to build or repair structures or high temperature equipment, such as cupola, kilns, ovens, or furnaces
• Remove burned or damaged brick or mortar, using sledgehammer
• Mix specified amounts of sand, clay, dirt, or mortar powder with water to form refractory mixtures
• Break or cut bricks, tiles, or blocks to size, using trowel edge, hammer, or power saw
• Examine brickwork or structure to determine need for repair
• Clean working surface to remove scale, dust, soot, or chips of brick and mortar, using broom, wire brush, or scraper
• Interpret blueprints and drawings to determine specifications and to calculate the materials required
• Remove litter and debris from roadways, including debris from rock and mud slides
• Inspect, clean, and repair drainage systems, bridges, tunnels, and other structures
• Haul and spread sand, gravel, and clay to fill washouts and repair road shoulders
• Perform roadside landscaping work, such as clearing weeds and brush, and planting and trimming trees
• Perform preventative maintenance on vehicles and heavy equipment
• Drive trucks to transport crews and equipment to work sites
• Erect, install, or repair guardrails, road shoulders, berms, highway markers, warning signals, and highway lighting, using hand tools and power tools
• Set out signs and cones around work areas to divert traffic
• Flag motorists to warn them of obstacles or repair work ahead
• Drive heavy equipment and vehicles with adjustable attachments to sweep debris from paved surfaces, mow grass and weeds, remove snow and ice, and spread salt and sand
• Clean and clear debris from culverts, catch basins, drop inlets

• Daily CNC machine operations
• Maintain equipment, making repairs or modifications when necessary
• Set up and adjust machines and equipment
• Observe work and monitor gauges, dials, and other indicators to ensure that operators conform to production or processing standards
• Enforce safety and sanitation regulations
• Read and analyze charts, work orders, production schedules, and other records and reports to determine production requirements and to evaluate current production estimates and outputs
• Requisition materials, supplies, equipment parts, or repair services
• Conduct employee training in equipment operations or work and safety procedures, or assign employee training to experienced workers
• Inspect materials, products, or equipment to detect defects or malfunctions
• Connect cables, tubes, and wiring, according to specifications
• Clean and lubricate parts and subassemblies, using grease paddles or oilcans
