I began the journey of working on the maintenance side of the freight industry, at an early age of 19 years old. - Worked closely with Tractor shop Lead man, and the Trailer shop Lead man to ensure that each assignment was finished ahead of its deadline.
- Established and enforced clear safety policies to protect workers from injury, through weekly safety meetings, and demonstrating good safety practices myself by following safety rules that apply.- i.e. Safety Glasses, proper uniform, steel toed boots etc.
- Eliminated knowledge gaps by managing continuous training, weekly Safety Meetings, and mentoring strategies for new and senior personnel. While being in all ways trainable myself, learning from our senior techs. No one is above learning new things.
- Monitored employee work levels and optimized performance with strategic approaches, including choosing the right guy for the job.
- At the end of the day, we all have strong points. It's our job to find each Technicians strong point, and work off of it, to improve Overall shop productivity.
- Maintained optimal supply levels in the parts room, to meet expected demands without overreaching budget targets. This includes keeping our Turns per years above the standard of 36 turns per year.- 2020 turns- 60.71
- Mitigated project downtime by effectively managing, scheduling and dispatching technicians for on-site/ road call repairs as needed. Having to make the right choices when it comes to sending a vendor to make needed repairs, sending a wrecker to swap out units, or is this something that our own guys could get going faster. Either way, the freight needs to move, and it needs to move now.
- Inspected completed work to assess quality and identify skill or ability issues. During these Qc's, if something is found that a technician had missed, provide coaching when needed. Keeping focus on getting the point across, without demeaning the said technician during the process.
- Coordinated efficient maintenance schedules to keep systems running at peak levels at the CLT terminal, and assisting with all outlying terminals by using vendors to catch PM's, and swapping units into our home terminal of CLT as needed.
- Collaborated with others to discuss new Warranty opportunities, as the new campaigns come out and are available.

- Set up daily spreadsheets in order to track daily workflow within our shop, and also keeping track of units out at multiple vendors.
- Accurately entered data in numerical and alphabetical order, using the AS400 system.

- Collaborated with others to discuss new warranty opportunities, this was round about the time that Saia started performing warranty repairs in house.

- Handled all delegated tasks, including assigning jobs within the shop, getting units moved to vendors, entering in repair orders for the whole truck shop, completing the weekly fuel reports, completing Qc's on units coming back from vendors while at the same time discussing and reconciling the found issues. This was a working leadman position, so it was not uncommon to jump back into repairs myself when needed.

- This is where it started for me at Saia. Working in the pit.
- Kept shop area neat and clean by removing debris and safely disposing of used oil, coolant, used parts, etc.
- Efficiently performed all of Saia's Pm's, logging all defects, to be repaired at a later time.
- Checked all fluids and maintenance-related parts and topped off or replaced as needed, according to Saia's scheduled PM intervals.
- Maintained tools, test equipment and materials, keeping all work areas neat and organized.
- Answered questions regarding vehicle maintenance and recommended necessary repair work to keep vehicles operating properly.
- Documented all work performed on repair orders, submitting daily shift repair orders to the Leadman for input into Saia's As400 system- using VRMS coding.
- Worked many weekends, in order to keep the shop flowing, by doing my part in every way.
- Completed any basic repairs, that were within my skillset at the time, always pushing ahead, and trying to grab for the bigger jobs when the opportunity arose.
- During this time, Saia didn't use very many outside vendors for repairs. My prior knowledge in the construction field helped, as I was able to perform various repairs around the shop. i.e. plumbing repairs, small electrical repairs, heater repairs, window repairs, and shop equipment and tool repairs. Things of this nature weren't exactly in the job description, but I have always from the beginning helped out in any way that I was able.
