  • Spent 2 months in the field with EMJ Construction at the construction of the new TVA Operations Center in Georgetown, TN
  • Was able to learn under the superintendent and assistant superintendent and understand what their jobs entail each day
  • It was an extremely complex job in the sense that EMJ was only the GC over the finishes and there was another GC in charge of everything else
  • What this led to was a lot of miscommunication and sequencing error on site
  • Due to experience on the site I was able to see first-hand the importance of intentional communication, scheduling and documentation
  • Primarily dealt with only Masonry and Metal Framing subcontractors all summer which led to a more comprehensive understanding of these scopes.

  • Fall 2021 semester intern with EMJ Construction in their office in Chattanooga, TN
  • Learned the sequence and processes of the pre-construction side of general contractors
  • Participated in bid solicitation and bid day for various projects
  • Aided project managers in acquiring submittals for projects and organizing contractual information
  • Became familiar with the Procore system
  • Spent the last month of internship participating in the close-out and punch lists of “Building B” at the River Rock apartment complex in downtown Chattanooga, TN.

  • Worked as a mentee to a field engineer on the construction of the “ North Addition” at Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville Beach, FL
  • Learned how to establish control around the job site using the auto-level and briefly learned how to use the total station
  • Gained better knowledge on the day-to-day life of a field engineer on a job-site, this included:
  • Constant reinforcement of the importance of PPE and masks on the job site
  • Daily inspections that all safety requirements are met around the site, such as correct barrier heights, proper covering of holes, possible fall hazards and site cleanliness.
