Twenty-nine years experience reporting and editing local, state, national and international news at newspapers in California, Pennsylvania and Hong Kong. Also deeply experienced at editing online stories.
For the international edition of The New York Times I edited stories for accuracy and grammar, trimmed the body to fit the news hole and wrote headlines, readouts, pull-quotes, refers and standalone cutlines. I also regularly served as Day Editor for The Times, giving stories a first read and preparing slugs for the copy desk. I still work for The Times on an as-needed basis.
Served as the bureau chief for five newspapers in the Calkins Media media chain, circulation 250,000. I worked out of the Pennsylvania Statehouse covering the governor and both houses of the Legislature.
