  • Initially started as a property and casualty insurance claims representative in Portland, OR from April 1992 to May 1995. Moved into Special Investigations Unit (claims fraud investigation) in January 1994.
  • Promoted to Special Investigations Unit (SIU) Team Manager in May 1995 in Seattle, WA.
  • Served on the Board of Directors of the Oregon Association of Arson Investigators from June 1995 to June 1996.
  • Served on various committees and on the Governing Board of the CPCU Society international insurance professional organization from May 1995 until June 2003.
  • Accepted a position in the home office IT department as a Project Manager in October 2001. Initially worked in the Customer Relationship Management (CRM) division until January 2004, working primarily in the installation of a new CRM system.
  • Moved to Technical Product Development area in February 2004 and introduced an agile-based software development framework (Scrum) into software and systems development. Expanded the use of Scrum throughout the IT department until June 2013.
  • Taught a 10-week Finance course to cohorts of students striving to earn the 10-part Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter professional certification from 2002 until 2010. I taught the course two semesters per year.
  • In April 2008, became the internal Certified Scrum Trainer for the State Farm IT department and taught Scrum in two-day classes to over 1,000 IT employees over 3 years. Also in April 2008, accepted a position on the Scrum Alliance Board of Directors with the support of State Farm Leadership and served as Chair of the Board for 12 months from September 2009 until October 2010.
  • Retired from State Farm in June 2013 with 22 years of service.
