  • Responsible to all new lab assistants. Perform phlebotomy in accordance with established National Patient Safety Goals and Coral Gables published protocols. Receives specimens into the Laboratory Information System accurately, and timely, label, transports, centrifuges, and aliquots specimens. Distributes specimens to testing section in accordance with collection priority, i.e. STAT over Routine. Faxes and distributes results as appropriate. Responsible for maintaining knowledge and deployment of policies and procedures used within the department as well as throughout the hospital to address patient questions and concerns. My responsibility is
  • Supply/equipment inventory ordering
  • Chemical hygiene and/or lab safety procedures.
  • Oversees unpacking of supplies
  • Maintains that orders for blood draws when received are routed in order or priority to the phlebotomy team.
  • Monitors integrity of patient specimen collection processes and reports to Lab Manager.
  • Keeps the Lab Manager informed of all phlebotomy activities and personnel problem.

  • Maintains that all new phlebotomists are adequately oriented and that training is documented for the tasks required.
  • Logging and distribution of patient test specimens from the processing areas in the lab to the respective test areas.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality and comply with HIPAA regulations.
  • Lead and supervise other lab assistants, providing guidance and support.
  • Assign tasks and delegate responsibilities as needed.
  • Monitor performance and provide feedback to team members
  • Communicate effectively with other healthcare professionals, including physicians, nurses, and technicians.
  • Maintain clear and accurate records of laboratory activities.
  • Participate in team meetings and other relevant activities.
  • Troubleshooting after hours is another responsibility I preformed.
  • Troubleshooting and diagnosing basic problems with computer equipment.
  • I am available to work to be called in to work outside my regular schedule typically for emergencies or when extra staffing is needed,even night weekends or holidays.
