I learned the basics of three different departments, and six different job titles.
Inbound
My job is agent included, making sure the ASN that’s on the skates ready for the inductors is under the same ASN that’s in the system. I am also responsible for the returns if certain freight is in red, errors in certain freight, and making sure the line is going smoothly.
As an inductor, your job is to clear the skates of the freight that is delivered to you in a quickly manner. The plan is to clear as many trailers as needed to complete the goal. You also have to clean up after yourself, like throw away all plastic wrap that comes on free, any cardboard must be disposed of in the recycling bins and sweep as you go. You were also allowed to offer a helping hand to your agent if needed.
Being a forklift operator for me was mostly delivering all of the freight that was ready to be delivered to the skates, or into the trailers. You had to have at least a minimum of 12 pallets delivered in one hour. You do also get judged on your performance.
Outbound
As a wall builder, your job is to grab whatever boxes are coming down the conveyor and organize them into the trailer according to size and weight. You are judged by a performance, which should at least be within the 90s and that is managed based on how quick you act
CCS/BP
My duties in the break pack was to scan small items with a device that we could attach on our arm with an armband, and deliver the freight into several boxes that lead to different stores. We would enter codes into the device that was given to us that would help us determine if the freight was for the break pack, which boxes they go in, and help us receive the freight for credit which was put towards our performance.
In CCS you are required to throw boxes from the skates onto the conveyor in a quick manner while scanning the labels that come attached to the freight. Each label does have a certain set of points, which count towards your performance, so if it’s light, it wouldn’t have as much, versus if it’s heavy.
I am also part of the Infocus team at my warehouse, which is a team based off of safety. We help make sure other associates are using proper PPE, the right lifting techniques, and lending a helping hand. I award caught orange handed cards to my fellow associates who are practicing safety techniques in their department.
