I started working as a PCNA (Patient care nurse assistant) at Cleveland Clinic this experience has taught me the importance of caring for someone and how much kindness to others is necessary. Patients generally come stressed about their medical conditions, surgeries or recoveries and must rely on strangers in hospitals to take care of their needs. Unfortunately, what is often left unconsidered is their emotional needs which can supersede their physical needs at times. As a PCNA, I try to develop a relationship with my patients to help relieve their anxiety and try to provide them an optimistic view to their road to recovery or comfort them through their situation through means of compassion and understanding by putting myself in their shoes. These patients are usually in their most vulnerable states while in our care. They might be at their weakest, saddest or most fragile state during their stay with us. Connecting with them, making them feel safe, cared for, and understood is an important part of their care that we as PCNA’s should try to provide. I truly enjoy my job and want to be able to extend my career and help as many patients as I can. Now, as that vision turns into a reality, I have always wondered where I wanted to be when I became an adult, how I can make a difference in this world we live in and I believe my place is in the healthcare field as a Physician Assistant, to help people in whichever way that I can. It truly takes a very special human being to play this role and I really hope that I am one of those lucky people who can leave my impression on someone else's life.
