I had originally started with the company in 2014, and I was a part of the NDC retail sortation team. During my time in this department, I had learned multiple functions which included induction, closing, corrugate, and unit pick. Learning these functions was an important part of the business to understand how the process of orders was started and completed for the stores. This also made me flexible to move and assist with each function when needed.
During 2016, for about 4 years, I had transitioned to the Online picking and packing departments. Being able to support both departments was important during this time as the Online side of the business was growing. This process went from picking and processing these orders to have them ready to ship directly to the customer.
In 2021, I had landed in the Returns department where customers ship back units for a refund for a variety of reasons. I quickly learned each function which included processing, putaway, salesforce, OBR, back to customer, bag and tag, and creating. I also had taken an extra step forward and became a driver for the department which was a vital role that not only loaded and unloaded trailer, but also distributed work to other members of the team for each function.
It was also during this time that I wanted to continue growing and learn more about how this business operates and had signed up to become a trainer. This allowed me to fine tune my skills and lead by example by training new associates to follow the SOP’s since the units being processed will eventually make it back to a new customer. As part of being a trainer, I also volunteered in NEO’s and tours for interviews, both in English and Spanish. Soon after I was given the opportunity as team lead and learned in depth how the Returns department operates. At this time, I learned quick on how to delegate work and manage the team by adapting and prioritizing tasks. This also included understanding the team and supporting them to be as successful at each task they were given. This ultimately allowed me to cover the shift and lead the team when needed.
