Summary

I focus on CG, film making, and game developing and I am willing to play with all the media associated with visual storytelling. I would like to call myself a generalist on all these areas since I can complete any of them on myself. But at the same time I am a good team worker who are familiar with the standard pipeline and scrum methods. I am also a problem-solver and I actively learn from the problem-solving process. I am extremely interested in the lighting elements in their aesthetic and practical functions in visualization.

Mocap/Scene/Lighting/Camera/Director/Screenplay

A 7-member 3-month Machinima(CG) Project

  • Set Layout and Camera Blocking in cinematic sequences: Use curve and animation blending to smooth the connection point. Set the render settings and camera settings to fit in the blurry feeling of the cyber punk feel.
  • Design the stage and the lighting: The theatre-like experience focusing on the inner world of characters & characteristic of cyber punk elements (rainy alley/junkyard)
  • Make the animation: Use live link face to add facial animation & Use Motion Builder to mocap and Maya to adjust/bake body animations
  • Create VFX effects: such as the rain.
  • Reconstruct the story of "The Wild Swans" by Hans Christian Andersen into a cyber-punk background adult fairy tale: a suspense revenge story with twisted plots.
  • Use Github to integrate people's work and keep the workflow

  • Create the facial and body animation for the metahuman in the game: Build the metahuman identity from photo of real human beings and apply animation on it.
  • Create in-game CG clips: Use the visualized guidance to indicate the goal of players without words as well as add story to gameplay.
  • Create the snowy effects to add to the realism and atmosphere of the (Christmas) environment
  • Programme the user-friendly gameplay since the audience of the game is not supposed to core player: Use dynamic locating arrows to track the dropping gifts if they are too far from the player; Use scale arrows to tell the players how much force they have exert on the gift they are about the throw.


C++ Programmer/Animator/Scene/Designer

  • Use different ways to animate the elements in game: (1)Add timeline to animate the UFO with niagara effect (2)Cooperate with Animator and combine [Move Component To] node with the animation (also using animation montage).
  • Include the lighting as a crucial gameplay element: Use Post process effect (cube) to create night-driving atmosphere; Dim and brighten the headlights of the vehicle to create tension in game; Use the distant light (the Windmill and the residential area) from the environment to indicate the direction of player.
  • Programe core game loop, including the different type of collisions, the UI, and real-time flowing water material (personalized and can be adjusted by material instance)
  • Create stylized landscape: Use layerbended function to paint landscapes and include several different landscapes in the gameplay to create dynamic.
  • Use Perforce to cooperate with team members; Also use Agile methods to make team work more effective

Film Remake Project(Eframe At Shenzhen University)

Design the scene: Adopt the window frames with hard edges to emphasize the legal framework and how humanity struggles under the frame. Design the window frames to take the most place of the shot and make the horizon extremely low to create the sense of oppression. (this works out extremely well for black-and-white films)

Design the lighting: Actively adopting the lighting (mainly natural lighting) to switch the classroom scene into a more serious and aesthetic background. Also considering how gray scales work since the remade clips are black and white and consciously use lights and shadows on the face (in close-up) to indicate the camps.

Problem-solving oriented Programming

  • As more card is added to the game loop, the path of the player token changes dynamically. Thus, I design a system that calculates the card when added to the loop and change the path for the token correspondingly.
  • Use layout element function to create the card drag-and-drop system.
  • Use a dice-system to enable player token to move certain grids indicated by the rolling dice. I also add a ease-in ease-out effect to the dice rolling animation.
  • Create a dialogue system; create a multi-ending system
