As a receptionist I was responsible for creating a positive first impression that the patients received when they walked into our store. As an optical receptionist I worked as part of a team of eye care professionals including optometrists. The receptionists’ main priorities were to assist patients either over the phone or in person. I was able to build trusting relationships with patients and staff. As well as float to other locations outside my region to assist in training and day to day office operations.


As a receptionist I gained basic understanding of the different types of optical aids available, and also was responsible for handling patient accounts, records, and medical billing.


My duties include (but are not limited to):


Duties/Responsibilities:


  • Greeting patients
  • Gathering and updating patients’ insurance
  • All computer functions (i.e., receipts, job entries)
  • Day-to-day business completion (close out, weekly reporting)
  • Maintaining patients’ medical records
  • Insurance-authorizations and rejections and patient notifications
  • Review of the patients bills for accuracy and completeness and proactively obtain any missing payer information for inclusion

  • Prepare invoices, reconcile billing, compile reports and other documents using billing software, and field related questions from internal teams and customers
  • Submit insurance claims and follow up on unpaid, rejected, or denied claims to resolve and resubmit when required
  • Answer all patient questions related to account status, activity, and outstanding charges

Also oversaw the development and implementation of shipping policies and procedures and managed relationships with shipping carriers and freight forwarders.

My responsibilities included (but were not limited to):
