  • Facilitate meetings, and ensure that the agenda is followed and discussions are held in an effective and orderly manner while confirming compliance with regulations at all times.
  • The Youth Advisory Council (YAC) operates in an advisory capacity by providing current knowledge, critical thinking, and analysis to the Commission's decision-making, while working to increase youth involvement in California's public policy efforts.

  • Actively supporting two groups in Nepal and Nigeria to increase menstrual health awareness and make reusable sanitary pads more accessible by upcycling textile waste.
  • Supporting a group in California, the Bay Area Youth Climate Summit, to increase awareness about climate activism by helping brainstorm and execute ideas for workshops, expanding social media presence, and achieving project sustainability.

Accomplishments

  • Serving the Glendale Sustainability Commission as a student ex officio and executing projects involving engaging students in local legislation processes and learning opportunities.
  • Supporting mentees across the globe as a member of the Future Blue Youth Council in reducing textile waste and increasing youth involvement in the climate movement.
  • Awarded California Legislature Assembly Certificate of Recognition by Assembly Woman Wendy Carrillo in recognition of my involvement in local environmental activism and as a panelist for the inaugural Glendale Carbon Conversations, commending my participation in bringing the perspective of students and youth to climate action discussions.
  • Engaging youth to learn about various ocean conservation and environmental topics through hands-on workshops as a NOAA Ocean Guardian Youth Ambassador.


Projects

Invasive Plants: Community Science Project

  • Crowdsource data on invasive species in the community. 300+ records.
  • The purpose of this project is to encourage students to explore their community and learn to identify invasive plant species.

Poo Patrol: Community Science Project

  • Established me as a global semi-finalist in the Spellman Clean Tech 2021 Competition.
  • Collects data on the location of undisposed pet waste and pet waste stations which is used to make a heat map of problem areas.
  • The primary purpose of Poo Patrol is to identify problem areas and implement pet waste stations to prevent eutrophication and contamination of local waterways.

Heat Risk, Tree Cover, Redlining: ArcGIS StoryMap

  • Outlines the dangers associated with the increasing heat risk as a result of climate change in an interactive format.
  • Encourages the audience to learn about the environmental legacy of the discriminatory practice of redlining.

Umibōzu: ArcGIS StoryMap

  • Placed 2nd place out of 4,000+ entries in the 2021 Bow Seat Ocean Awareness Contest where the theme was "the funny thing about climate change."
  • Used irony and the method of storytelling to convey the dangers of climate change.

Monitoring Methane Emissions: NASA Tech Rise Competition

  • Project managed a four-member team to design a payload to monitor methane emissions using a high-altitude balloon and drone flights which we presented at the Esri Ocean, Weather, and Climate GIS Forum and Education Summit.
  • Scheduled and assisted drone flight tests, served as the main communication between our team and the NASA team, and consolidated data from all members to create a comprehensive ArcGIS StoryMap.
