Work History

Data Systems Analyst

University of California - Berkeley
01.2018 - 04.2025
  • Report Developer. Delivered best-in-class insights and analytical solutions to accelerate fundraising productivity. Provided reports and tools that supported donor-centric, coordinated, inclusive, and transparent development and constituent engagement efforts at UC Berkeley. Reports and tools were developed and maintained using SQL, Tableau Crystal and WEBI.
  • Requirements Analyst. Consulted with fundraisers and other users of system wide data to understand their reporting needs directly or in focus groups for major projects. For example, I built a tool in Tableau that had multiple views to better fundraising efficiency via a task dashboard. In addition to building it, I ran focus groups with fundraisers to identify business requirements, wrote requirements, ran training, and produced a user guide and launched the dashboard campus wide.
  • Database Developer. Collaborated closely with Prospect Research and Database Architects to develop a new dataset for Tableau so that my team and I could modernize and streamline reports that needed to be moved out of WEBI or Crystal, as well as brand new dashboard development. This dataset has been foundational to 60 new published dashboards.
  • Project Manager. Lead effort to update and improve gift acknowledgement reports to better meet users' needs for stewardship, ease of use, and accuracy. Collected user requirements. Collaborated with Donor Recognition and campus wide stakeholders. Held focus groups. Programmed the report in SQL, designed report in Crystal. Used project launch to introduce new scheduling features in the SAP Business Objects ecosystem. Wrote documentation, user guide, and ran multiple training.
  • Team Collaborator. Frequent and committed participant in team meetings and google space where we problem solved and supported each other. Always documented code and shared code snippets. Firm believer in team collaboration and sharing knowledge.
  • Liaison. With strong communication skills and ability to explain technical topics to nontechnical users, was often the team member who stepped into this role as liaison with campus units, ran demos, and provided 1:1 training.

Director of Advancement Systems

University of California - Berkeley
08.2015 - 01.2018
  • Report Developer. Built and maintained a suite of reports specific to COE; some of them are self-serve CADSmart reports, others require special handling i.e. endowed chair fund stewardees, annual fund lybunts and sybunts analysis, velocity score analysis, annual fund performance statistics.
  • Data Systems Manager. Responsible for the overall management of College Relations' data systems.
  • Database Developer. Worked to expand, develop, program, and maintain the COE Oracle data warehouse to support: data verification (gift, biographic, etc), gift acknowledgement system, list segmentation (direct mail, invitation lists, etc), data integrity audits, reporting data dimensions and measures, and analysis.
  • Database Administrator. Successfully set up a new data warehouse as part of our migration to CADS which is used to maintain operations, support reporting, and to fulfill data requests.
  • Liaison. Acting as the liaison between the College of Engineering and UDAR to ensure that COE advancement needs are well represented and satisfied. For example, I acted as the point of contact for the COE migration to and adoption of SFMC as COE's email platform.
  • Project Manager. Managed multiple data requests and projects all at various stages of project lifecycle development while also meeting deadlines. Data requests are managed concurrently while also maintaining/administrating the production environment and the data infrastructure.
  • Team Lead. Acted as team lead on a very successful migration from Raiser's Edge to CADS. Worked with the UDAR analysis and planning group to meet all project milestones and keep the migration on schedule, while meeting many other deadlines for College Relations. Contributed significant heavy lifting to strategy, actual data reconciliation, and data recoding efforts.
  • Requirements Analyst. Consulted with fundraisers and other users of data to understand their needs, especially in reporting and direct mail segmentation but also in several other high-stakes areas, so that end-users can track results and make informed decisions in our new data environment post migration to CADS.
  • Trainer and Strategic Planner. Developed a strategic plan for organizing the Advancement Systems team to optimize its operations in the new data environment, covering staff responsibilities and services provided. Considering available staff and resources were central considerations while assessing and strategizing what advancement operations would look like post migration. Successfully trained a new Associate Director of Advancement Systems, which was key to fulfilling data requests while maintaining progress with the CADS migration. Trained and supported a new Gift Acknowledgment Coordinator during a time when we began to rethink our acknowledgement process and implemented significant changes so that we could successfully and smoothly get through the Big Give and the end of year peak season. Quickly and successfully brought together a very effective, flexible, solutions-focused team.
  • Team Lead, Architect, Developer. Launched and led an Advancement Systems team effort to redesign our acknowledgement process workflow in collaboration with University Relations and the College Relations stewardship team. Lead and participated in conceptualizing what COE's acknowledgement process and workflow would be like post-CADS migration, and built data structures to support our new acknowledgments process. Designed, coded, tested, and launched a program that not only addressed the gap in functionality between RE and CADS, but also incorporated many new preprocessing steps to reduce human error in acknowledgement. This program handles gift clubs, giving through third parties, in honor and in memory tributes, and batches gifts in workable sizes and with workflow operational considerations for end users.

Database Manager

University of California - Berkeley
07.2008 - 07.2015
  • Responsible for the overall management of College Relations' data systems.
  • Lead design sessions with functional and technical experts in donor stewardship to identify and document data, metric definitions and reporting/analysis needs for managing and producing fund reporting and tracking. Built a new data model to support fund tracking and reporting.
  • Gathered requirements for new online honor roll for donor recognition, developed queries for identifying past and current donors and maintaining related and required data for the project. Managed the ETL of this data on an ongoing basis.
  • Served as project manager and design facilitator on a project to overhaul and streamline our donor acknowledgment letter system. Implementation significantly improved process time and improved data integrity. Awarded the 2012 Chancellor's Outstanding Staff Award for this project.
  • Anticipated and executed changes to data integration needs and solutions to drive fundraising success.
  • Ensured the security, validity and accuracy of College Relations databases, especially with respect to other campus databases.
  • Monitored the accuracy of data elements in the University Relations fundraising database (CADS) that affect the College.
  • Developed statistical and analytical support for Annual Fund and Campaign programs.
  • Managed software vendor relationships.
  • Interacted with peer managers within College Relations and with data management professionals across the campus, especially those involved with advancement operations.
  • Initiated, designed and implemented fully new procedures and systems to keep the College's data integrated, accurate and in sync with CADS following a CADS system migration. Used SQL Server Integration Services to build ETL procedures that extract CADS data from a data warehouse and prepare it for upload to the Raiser's Edge fundraising database.
  • Set up, managed and used a test server that simulated the production database. Utilizing test server to test disaster recovery scenarios, software upgrades and other high-impact database operations.
  • Assessed, modified and upgraded existing Access Databases for data synchronization between CADS and Raiser's Edge that relied on files generated from CADSweb or CADS Datatel Query Builder scripts to work well with the launch of CADS 2.0. Utilized SQL Server 2005 and Business Objects Web Intelligence to replace reliance on Access databases and file transfers for data reconciliation.
  • Delegated database assignments to and supervising the work of the Assistant Database Manager.
